My Journey from long hair to long hair.

Chapter 1

Years from 1975- 1991

Always had very thick long black hair.
Very difficult to manage.
Takes hours to airdry.
Its above hip length but not Classic.
Routine: Hates hair bath. But Pappa insisted I take it daily. SO just to make him happy I pour some water over my hair, make it wet, leave it loose and run to catch my school bus. ( He even insists I should wash my hair in the morning itself )

Uses Coconut oil and ordinary bath soap. Shampoo was a luxury and Pappa thought it has too many chemicals that will spoil my hair. Ofcourse I was mad at him, But he was right and I was wrong.
Anyway I didnt use either shampoo or Soap daily, so the hair was safe.

Chapter 2

Years from 1992- 1994

I requested my brother to cut my hair, and he cuts it too short, I was so scared, my mom was worried I wished I could disappear. I made it into different hair dos so that Pappa wont notice. At last one day he noticed. He shouted, he yelled (luckily he didnt spank me.). He said "girls whose hair wont grow will cut their hair, not you, you have such pretty hair".
Again he was right I am wrong.
Slowly I started growing hair again. I got married to a family where nobody had long hair and they admired my long hair so much.
But I always kept it waist length which was manageable for me and stylish too. Always braid or loose never buns ( not common for young woman)

Routine was ok. Started using shampoo once in a week.

Chapter 3

1995- 1997

Reached U.S.A. Got pregnant with my first son. Extreme morning sickness, hated the site of food, hated the smell of soap, hated taking bath or brushing teeth (Vomited for 6-7 months).
Dont know how my hair looked ( I didnt care).
Atlast after delivery and very good postpartum care my hair started to grow once again. I didnt notice it except for the photos which tells me I had the most beautiful hair of my entire life. It was hip length, slightly curly, thick and shiny.
Tried bangs for the first time.
Didnt like it much due to high maintenence.

Chapter 4

1995-1999

I started severe dieting to get rid of all the baby fat. I was not worried about hair only my body. I lost the shine in my hair. I started using shampoo and conditioner daily to bring back the shine, which aggravated the shedding. Blamed it on water , weather and everything.
Some of my friends had short hair and they looked younger than me and their hair looked better too. There goes my hair, cut it to the shortest I had in my life (Shoulder length)

Routine same.
Not at all happy with short hair.
Not interested in getting it much long.

Chapter 5

Year 2000-2001

Started working. SO got a haircut suitable for office wear. BL and with layers. Pregnant with the second baby, excellent appetite. Hair started looking shiny and very healthy again.
2000 Summer was hot and got good new hairs. Thickness to iii.
Changed rouitine to hair wash twice a week. Shampoo once. Due to oily hair (pregnant) no need of conditioner at all... :P
Left it short (BL) most of the time. But hair remained very thick and shiny.

Chapter 6

Last haircut in August 2001. Hairdresser was impressed with my hair didnt cut it short. She just trimmed it. Gave some good advice to take care of it.
Inspired me to grow it long. Never visited her again (she herself had long hair).

Visited tlhs for the first time.
Printed out the hair care section.
Made herbal shampoo.
Started taking care of my hair.
Found out the Natural products shop near my work.
Tested Monoi, Jojoba, Castile soap, EO like rosemary, lavender etc etc.

hair length 24"

Year 2002

Started taking UltraNourishair
Oil treatment, less use of conditioner, no chemicals on hair, Blow dry just once in a month or less in warm, More proteins and egg in diet.

Year 2003

Visited india.
Everybody happy to see my long & thick mane. :o
Was oiling the hair and washing it daily due to the humidity.
No major hair loss.
Length 31"

This is the longest Hair I had:

Came back to U.S.
Poor diet.
Stopped vitamins.
Cold & Extremely Dry weather.
No Herbal Shampoo
No oiling.
Did not visit LHL.
Hair back to Chapter 4.
Thoughts of cutting it short.
Major shedding of hair. ( 100 everyday) More on the days of washing.
Thickeness reduced to 2" in the ends
.

Chapter 7

At Present

Back to good routine.
Hair shedding reduced.
Hair mostly in bun.
hair length 33".

Changes

Starting from April 23:

Tested CO wash using Sauve.

Routine:

In the night before treat my hair with Jojoba+rosemary EO, braid.
Morning wet my hair.
Take a handful of Conditioner (currently using Sauve-aloe need to test White rain too) and apply liberally on the length. Whatever left in the palm goes to the scalp and I massage the scalp thoroughly for couple of minutes. Put the hair up in shower cap while I wash rest of my body. In the end rinse off the conditioner and cold water rinse.

Vitamins started: MSM (1500), UltraNourishair & Flaxseed, also one egg a day.

Have to wait and see:
Any changes in the scalp. (Irritations, dandruff, oily)?
Dry hair by washing it daily?
More curls?
What happens when I shampoo next?
Shedding?
Build up?

Re: My Journey from long hair to long hair.

Latest news:

After a long struggle of stress at home & work, my hair has fought back to grow long. Now it is approximately near 32". I should confirm the length on next measuring day.

Current routine:

Friday: Oil hair ear down generously using warm coconut oil & rosemary oil.

Saturday : Hair Wash day.
  • Detangle hair.
  • Check hair.
  • If extremely dry : use CWC.
  • If limp and no shine : use clarifying shampoo+baking soda.
  • Party weekend: Pantene Shampoo & Conditioner.
  • Regular week end: Homemade shampoo no conditioner.
  • After washing : towel dry, turban dry, air dry.
  • Oil hands and apply it near the ends more.
  • Check for tangles using hands ( mostly none).
  • When not fully dry, loose braid and twist the ends into a hair band.

Sunday: No hair wash , Hair Style - loose hair
Monday: damp and slightly oil the ends, hair style - pony tail
Tuesday evening: If needed apply rosemary/oil to hair, hair style - bun
Wednesday: Hair Wash day:
  • Check the hair.
  • If too dry : do CO.
  • if normal : just homemade shampoo followed by oil on damp hair.
  • Hair Style - loose hair

Thursday& Friday: No hair wash, Hair Style -Bun

Also I am taking UltraNourishhair 2 a day.
More protein in food
More water. ( When I remember! )
