This is driving me nuts. I can't put my hair up. At all. I get a killer migraine. The other day i had it in a french braid and my head was pounding so bad i couldn't think. Migraines *are* hereditary in my family, but i don't believe that it's a coincidence that I only get headaches on days when my hair *is* up. I would *love* to wear it up so one day I could take it down and everyone would say "Woow. Your hair is SOO long." or something to that effect. Help, what can I do?! __________________ ~Alicia May 3, 2007 click it | | | January 15th, 2004, 03:47 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: San Antonio, Texas Age: 52 Posts: 3,082 Length: 30/42/? Try up styles for a few hours at a time every day and soon enough you might be able to go a day without headaches. Some of the others have this problem too. Try doing a search for headache and see what pops up. __________________ Sometimes, I do like to push buttons. Use a light conditioner so your hair will seem less weighed down. Maybe don't tie it up wet, I dont know if your doing that or not..Lastly If you try what I say and what the others say, and that doesent work you could always get your hair thinned by getting it cut specifially so It thins it. I think your hair might just be long enough to do it, or a version of it. It's the Chinese bun and I just taught myself to do it five minutes ago. Its really a quick easy up do that distributes the weight of the hair well. Heres a link to the instructions: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/...eid=1066672994 | | | January 15th, 2004, 04:49 PM | #6 | | Administrator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Alaska Age: 35 Posts: 12,683 Length: 2"/62"/65" Type: 2b/2c/F/M/iii | Quote: | Originally Posted by snippet If you don't usually put up your hair, the difference can pull and give you headaches. Your hair weighs the same amount whether it's up or down, so your follicles have the same amoutn of weight to hold. (Well, perhaps the addition of a hair stick or whatnot, but that's all.) A little updo each day will cure ya. __________________ | | | January 15th, 2004, 06:57 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2003 Location: Phoenix Age: 52 Posts: 398 Length: 16/29/35 Type: 1c/F/ii | My hair isn't the same hair type as yours, but I have found putting my hair up with a couple of claw clips is really comfortable. I like to take the front and sides and anchor that at the crown with a small claw clip(not real tight, looks nice to have a little fullness) and then twist the back almost as if I was doing a french twist and take the big claw clip (you'll need the biggest one they make) and place it over the twist to anchor it in place. I like doing it this way because regular buns and even Figure 8 buns were creating alot of tension on the hair at the front of my hairline. I could just see it pulling, struggling with the weight of the rest of my hair. That might sound weird, but I like wearing my hair up with the clips because it holds the 'do in place without any tension on the rest of my hair and I think its more flattering with the front hair being held back and then a big clip holding the rest of it. Kind of dividing your hair like that as you're getting used to wearing updo's and redistributing the weight of your hair might help take some of the pressure off - some of the 'pulling' thats giving you a headache. My husband does have hair similar to yours but he wears it short. I would strongly recommend against getting your hair 'thinned' in any way - especially since you're trying to grow it out. My husband wears his collarbone length and isn't interested in length at all. He does go in to get his thinned but sometimes it turns out and sometimes it doesn't. Plus, if you get it done and it turns out really bad - what then? Would you have to cut it all off? I think experimenting with different looks, wearing updo's a few hours a day to get used to it as previously suggested, and modifying updo's to suit your very thick (and very pretty) hair will help you find some solutions that you're looking for. BTW, I love your wavy hair! Type: 2c/F/iii | welcome to my world it's not even 10 am here and i already have a headache. i find it best to let my hair down awhile each day and redistribute my hair on my head a couple of times during the day. that takes the pressure off my head. getting a lot more layers cut into my hair in july took a lot of the weight and thickness out of my hair. i realize layering isn't for everyone but it has helped me tremendously. if i were a teenager, i would do a double french braid or single french braid __________________ Karen 2C F iii 12/40.5/? Why didn't I get them sooner?! __________________ ~Alicia May 3, 2007 click it | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
