Check out my laundry room.... Yeah, I know it's not spectactular, but wow I sure did a lot of work. Crown moulding is a challenge in it's self. Should've taken a before and after, that would've been much more impressive. Still trying to get used to the bold color  Next job... ceramic tile the kitchen back splash. __________________ I'm looking up. Type: 2b/2c/M/ii | Giggy2, I love your laundry room! It looks like the color we painted our kitchen when we remodeled it two years ago. We put white wainscotting around the bottom 1/2 of the wall. I would love to do more of the work on projects like that, but I'm afraid I'll make a big mistake. Then it would end up costing more. Have you ever textured walls? I would like to do that in our bathroom sometime. It is painted that Hunter Green, and I'm getting so tired of it. Tell us more about your projects! I sure wish mine looked like that (mine is in an old, dark basement). Home improvement is one of hubby and my "favorite" things too. We've been re-doing our 1907 house for 16 years now. It's FINALLY almost done. (At least, most of the projects we have started on over the years. It still needs: a new roof, a re-done bathroom, and a re-done kitchen!) The only must-be-done type things are the roof and the bathroom. But even those can muddle along for a while. We are finishing up the oak molding around the downstairs windows. They've been without it for so long. What a difference that makes. Tea Lady | | | January 2nd, 2004, 06:27 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: May 2003 Posts: 2,164 | Hey, that's purdy! I love remodeling, unfortunately though I'm no good at it. I wallpapered my kitchen 3 years ago, and...ummmm....let's just say I'll never do that again! I like the color you chose for paint, very bold and vivid. You did good! | | | January 3rd, 2004, 06:50 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Michigan Age: 42 Posts: 360 Length: 18.5/27.5/36 Type: 1b/F/i/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Maggie Giggy2, I love your laundry room! Maggie | I've never used the "quote" button so bear with me on this I'm trying to bust out of the old, mauves, tans, ya know neutral colors. I would love to do the wainscotting around my family room but that's one of those not so important jobs. Wow it sure does make a splendid impact on a room. I've botched many a job and wasted quite a bit of money learning how to do things. Let's not tell DH how much money has been wasted on trim I've managed to cut too short Those compound miter saws can be quite tricky to get the hang of. I've never textured walls; however, my family room could use it after I tore down all the old panelling and had to fill in all the marks from the glue behind it. One can't tell just from looking at it, but I know it's there. (You should've seen the look on DH face when he came home from work and I was tackling that project) | | | January 3rd, 2004, 07:05 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Michigan Age: 42 Posts: 360 Length: 18.5/27.5/36 Type: 1b/F/i/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Tea Lady Well it's very classy for a laundry room. I wouldn't mind having it back in the basement though, since our washing machine is SOOOO loud. I'd love to buy an old house and re-do it. That would be sooo wonderful. But my DH does not have the same passion as I do. Because whenever tackling a home improvement job, nothing EVER goes smoothly, well, he just doesn't have the patience for that. I guess that's why I started tackling it....I just got sick of looking at it. We're due for a new roof next year. Need new windows too. Your right about the moulding. What a huge difference it can make in finishing off a room. Especially oak. I guess I'd never noticed until I started doing it myself, now I notice it everywhere I go. One thing I've learned is that I must be disciplined enough to complete the job. Can't be leaving the little things out or I'll have 50 jobs going on at once. Right up to the last piece of trim. If you can, I'd love to see some pics of your house. | | | January 3rd, 2004, 07:14 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Michigan Age: 42 Posts: 360 Length: 18.5/27.5/36 Type: 1b/F/i/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by MissKim Hey, that's purdy! It's so refreshing to complete a project. To be perfectly honest...I'll never tackle a wallpaper job again either. A border is about it. It is so hard to remove wallpaper, I've come to realize painting can be much simpler with the same dramatic results. I thought my DH was gonna divorce me when he got home from work and saw the bright color, but to my surprise, he loved it. Thanks for your comments, I was so nervous about the bright color. | | | January 3rd, 2004, 07:54 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Oakland, CA Age: 36 Posts: 2,272 Length: pixie/chin/40" Type: 1c/M/ii | I LOVE that color! My bedroom is a medium green, and my bathroom is what is called "American Blue." We painted 1.5 years ago and I'm still not totally sure I'm happy with how bright they turned out. We got lots of compliments though. | | | January 3rd, 2004, 03:47 PM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Elk River, MN Age: 47 Posts: 1,330 Length: 22.25/35/?? Type: 1a/1b/F/i/ii | Giggy2, I love both of your rooms! I know you said you'd like to break away from the neutrals but I really like the color in your living room. What is that? The laundry room is beautiful. I love bold colors like that--and the crown moulding is the perfect icing. The backsplash will be a piece of cake. Scott did it behind our kitchen sink and stove and it turned out great. Scott and I close on our newly-built house the end of this month so I'll be working on painting each room one at a time (anything other than basic white for the builder was an upgrade we didn't want to mess around with). So I'm looking for ideas. I'm the queen of painting. I pretty much singlehandedly painted the townhouse we just sold and Scott and I painted the interior of his mom's townhouse to the tune of 11 gallons of paint. Word to the wise: Do not buy Behr paint. It's way too thick and the walls absolutely soak it up. I knew I was in trouble when it took the better part of a gallon to paint the length of one wall--and I'm not one to glob paint on thick. Maggie, I've not personally done it but a friend of mine did her foyer. My advice is to not use the texture in a high-traffic area like that. She wound up with scratches in the wall from people constantly bumping it. It's a nice process, though, and would look wonderful in the correct place although where that would be I honestly don't know. I'd also stay away from it if you have pets (which she has 3 large dogs) and/or children. __________________ Naturally medium-brown with golden highlights Currently hennaed with EveryDay Mehndi Prabda to a warm auburn Metus improbos compescit, non clementina. My kitchen is kindof a sage green and I've been contemplating changing the color. Dispatcher Bert Actually the color in my living room is Alexander Julian #223 in American Traditions Satin from Lowes. It's more of a golden color than it seems. The pic I took was during the day with good natural light. Looking at the pic I see I need some crown moulding up top That'll cost me an arm and a leg just trying to figure out the compound cut. I can't wait to takle the backsplash. I've removed the old one and sanded down all the old mastic, so it'll be nice to get that completed. Congrats on the new home ! e: How wonderful to have a fresh palette to work with. I'd be so excited. You and Scott should take a day and go visit open houses. It's a great way to get decorating ideas. My problem is that I get all the basic stuff done but I can never decide on window treatments and decorating accessories.. __________________ I'm looking up. | Oh yea, Behr sucks! Glidden works alot better. Personally I like Ralph Lauren. It costs a little more, but I did a 20X10 room in two colors (different top than bottom) with one gal of each: 1 coat, no primer. cheryl __________________ "Never is Karma's doorbell. We're actually thinking of going to a home improvement/landscape expo at the Metrodome this weekend. Once spring rolls around we'll have to think about the dreaded landscaping. It'd be nice to get some (hopefully not-too-expensive) ideas. euphrasyne wrote: Quote: | Personally I like Ralph Lauren. I'll definitely keep RL in mind possibly for the living room. I will probably never change my opinion of Behr but I think part of the problem was that I was painting over the cheap crap that the builders painted with when my MIL's townhome was built (AKA "white wash" as she calls it). Talk about crap! You're in trouble if you get any sort of scuff on the wall because if you try to wash it off, half the wall color will come with it even if you use only plain water! __________________ Naturally medium-brown with golden highlights Currently hennaed with EveryDay Mehndi Prabda to a warm auburn Metus improbos compescit, non clementina.
