They're not lengthwise, like most seams are on brushes, but around the middle of the bristle. Is this normal? Is it worth the effort to sand them down, or should I just buy a new one? __________________ | | | May 22nd, 2007, 04:46 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: USA Age: 34 Posts: 1,533 Length: ??/25/waist Type: 2a/F/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | Hmm, I don't see any on mine. I looked pretty closely. Which Denman do you have? (I have the D4) And where did you buy it? Weird. __________________ The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas. | | | May 22nd, 2007, 05:21 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: San Jose, CA Age: 28 Posts: 618 Length: 13/17/50 Type: 1c/2a/M/ii/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I have a D3, I purchased it from Sally's. __________________ | | | May 22nd, 2007, 05:34 AM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: The heart of Dixie Posts: 334 Length: 24/28/class Type: 2b/M/i/ii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I'll be danged if I didn't look at my D3 from Sally's, and mine also has these! Hmmm, too many to file. Guess I might be looking around for something else. They do seem soft, but ??? Hopefully some of the girls who've been using Denman brushes for a long time, and also discover this on theirs, with no adverse results might pipe in. | | | May 22nd, 2007, 09:01 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: San Jose, CA Age: 28 Posts: 618 Length: 13/17/50 Type: 1c/2a/M/ii/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I think I'm going to go to Sally's today and examine all their denmans in the boxes (if they'll let me). See if it's common, or whatnot. I KNOW lots of people own Denmans, so speak up! Does your Denman also have this problem? If so, how'd you deal with it? And if not, where'd ya get it? __________________ | | | May 22nd, 2007, 09:26 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: USA Age: 34 Posts: 1,533 Length: ??/25/waist Type: 2a/F/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I just looked at my mom's D3, and there are no seams on it. Hers has the clear/white bristles, my D4 has black bristles. Maybe they've changed them? Cutting costs? My mom's brush is several years old and mine is about a year old. I got mine from Sally's and it came in a box. Maybe I'm losing my eyesight. __________________ The voices may not be real, but they have some pretty good ideas. | | | May 22nd, 2007, 09:30 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: on the side of the hill Posts: 1,453 Length: 14/class/term Type: 1a/F/M/ii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | Ack. I just bought a Denman from Sally's. It's a D3 (white/clear bristles). I've not started using it yet, so I went to check - it's fine. Whew! | | | May 22nd, 2007, 09:50 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: The heart of Dixie Posts: 334 Length: 24/28/class Type: 2b/M/i/ii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | Wait - same here - from Sally's and in a box. D3 with clear/white bristles. You have to look very carefully at the middle of the bristle, or slowly feel it with your finger. It's not that obvious by sight, but once you feel it and know it's there, it's there. I just want to know from the more experienced if this is something to be concerned about. Is this why they are on sale at Sally's? | | | May 22nd, 2007, 10:38 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: San Jose, CA Age: 28 Posts: 618 Length: 13/17/50 Type: 1c/2a/M/ii/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | If anything, I suspect it may be random "bad apples" that didn't get processed as thoroughly as the other brushes, or what have you. I'm tempted to email Denman and ask them about it, and ask them if they have any advice. __________________ | | | May 22nd, 2007, 10:40 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: The heart of Dixie Posts: 334 Length: 24/28/class Type: 2b/M/i/ii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | Please do, and let us know! | | | May 22nd, 2007, 02:46 PM | #11 | | Administrator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Alaska Age: 35 Posts: 12,683 Length: 2"/62"/65" Type: 2b/2c/F/M/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I have two Denman D5's (one for home, one for the office) and a purse-sized one, and none of them have seams. Very smooth. __________________ | | | May 22nd, 2007, 02:55 PM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Near Detroit, Michigan Age: 37 Posts: 3,915 Length: 3/36+/36-40 Type: 2a/2b/F/M/ii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I bought my D3, D5, D13 all at Sally's a few years ago. I don't feel any seems on the bristles. All I feel is a lip or edge near the tip where it goes from the rounded tip to the wider bristle. Maybe they got a batch in that was made on a machine that was messed up the day they were made? Or maybe the molds had something in them? __________________ This is before and after April 4th, 2007 Trim. What's with that? I am becoming more and more disenchanted with a certain "S" store all the time. Big, fat raspberry to Sally's! (but shhh; this is just between us!) | | | May 25th, 2007, 10:34 AM | #14 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: San Jose, CA Age: 28 Posts: 618 Length: 13/17/50 Type: 1c/2a/M/ii/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | I went back to Sally's, and ALL their D3's had seams!!! I was flabbergasted. I did, however, find a gorgeous black D4 there that was smoother than silk. It glides through my hair like buttah. I just wrote an email to them, too. It reads Quote: Hello! I have a concern about the quality of a Denman brush I purchased perhaps a month and a half ago. It's a D3, and I purchased it from my local Sally's in the United States. The bristles have seams around the middle of them. The presence of the seams concerns me, as your brushes are advertised as having smooth nylon bristles. I don't want to have my hair catching on these seams. When I returned to Sally's and examined the rest of their Denman stock, all of their D3s had seams. I've discussed this a bit with some friends, and they too went to examine their Denmans. Most of them were seamless, but another girl who purchased hers from a Sally's as well found seams on hers. She lives on the other side of the country from me. I do not have the time or the patience to manually sand down each individual seam on the bristle. Is there any possible recourse? Thanks so much for your time, Stephanie | If I don't hear from them, I'm going to resend it to their North America office. It's going to their UK branch first because they have "Customer Service" beside it in parentheses. Labs*R*Us, you should also send them an email if you have the time. __________________ | | | May 25th, 2007, 10:40 AM | #15 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Canuck in Silicon Valley Age: 38 Posts: 3,101 Length: pixie/29ish/40 Type: 2a/2b/M/iii | | Re: Seams on your denman bristles? | | My D3 and purse sized Denman are smooth as satin. I think it is probably a bad lot.
