what would you do? grow out now, or later...?

Hey guys, i havent posted for a while!

i'm chemically relaxed

have waistlength hair @ the back and brastrap @ the front (layered @ the front)

i've been thinking about going natural for some time...

i have around 2 inches of regrowth i nthe middle and an inch and half at the front and back....

my dilemma is, should i continue to relax until i get to my goal length (hiplength @ the back waistlength at the front) or begin to grow out the relaxer and try to maintain my hair and trim, until my natural hair is at a good length so i can do a big chop and live life naturally?

my only problem is, is that since growing out my hair, i keep it in a bun and only have it out straight every 3months. i'm really boring with my relaxed hair even though i promised myself i would have it out more now its so long.

i honestly dont know what to do. i want to show off my length but still have a healthy head

my heart is telling me grow it out now, and maybe blowdry every few months or so to trim...

but my brain is sayin, relax until my goal length and then grow out...

help!!!

ps. when i do go natural, i will most likely dye my hair anyway, but always wear it in curly styles.

my reason for going natural is ebcause i want a change and i know i can grow my hair to this length now, so i feel like achieved enough.

i know i can still wear straight styles whilst transitioning..i'm just a bit scared of breakage and stuff!

Re: what would you do? grow out now, or later...?

Well I was bsl/almost mbl until last week and I just cut off almost 3 inches of hair. I too am growing out my relaxer. So what I'm going to do after talking to some of my hair buddies is keep growing my hair out, do maintenance trims, and grow out my texturizer until I am just about armpit length. That should take about 18 months.

Once I get there I'll decide if I'm going to cut all my hair off. I feel really dumb for cutting the hair I did cut off already, but it does look better.

I was going to relax until my goal and then cut, but the longer my hair got, the more reluctant I was to cut and start growing it out because of the instant length gratification I got when I retexturized and was able to see the length.

To see your length I would rollerset and straighten out the newgrowth with a flat iron (I use a sedu) and then wrap your hair at night to straighten out the curls. It has worked for me.

I would say just embrace your naturalness and go for it. The sonner you stop the straigtening the quicker your hair will be back again.

Go with your heart. That is the route of least disappointment.

Re: what would you do? grow out now, or later...?

thankyou for you suggestions of transitioning brightstar7801! i will try to learn how to rollerset!!

allthatglitters: thats so true, if i relax the regrowth now, thats nearly 3 inches of natural hair, gone! thankss

spidermom: thats so true. i will follow my heart and i am edging towards growing out this chemically treated hair now!Its not going to be easy, but i dont expect it to be hard...my natural hair thats coming through is so WIREY and thick, oh my gosh. my relaxed hair is as thick as 3 heads now, so imagine my natural hair hehe.

i'm actually quite excited!

I agree with the others. If you know what you want to do in the long run, the sooner you start towards that route, the sooner you'll get ther! Good luck in your endeavor.
