I'm glad you addressed the comb issue. I was ripping my hair with a comb that had burrs in between the teeth and didn't know until I starting reading on the boards. I carefully examined and found that I needed a different comb. I've been learning so much on here. The one mentioned about putting on your rings AFTER styling is one I'm triaining myself to remember. Becauss of LHC I'm also buying a new comb today. I never realized how much damage it could be doing. It's embarressing how old and beat up my pick is. :embaress: A poster asked about broken nails in the shower catching their hair. If one breaks I grab a pair of nail scissors off my bathroom counter and cut it smoothly. Applying lotion before the shower helps keep nails strong, and of course I check for any chips or tears before hand and trim accordingly. Once the hair is split, you cannot mend it. The hair is dead and cannot heal itself (at the split). The only way to "fix" a split is to cut it off (there are a few other methods, but I find them questionable). The next best option is to do what you can to not get the splits; hence this thread. I hope you found the thread helpful. | | | March 31st, 2007, 06:09 PM | #53 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: canada Posts: 76 Type: 2c/M/ii | | Re: Keeping Splits at Bay: Secrets of Gently Handling your Hair | | teacherbear...yeah that's what I thought..once they're there it's a lost cause. Tried the "use shampoo only at roots" method today and it's not as easy as washing all the hair at once. I'm not sure which way creates more tangles good article though __________________ | | | April 1st, 2007, 11:04 AM | #54 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2003 Location: Netherlands Age: 31 Posts: 592 Length: 23/24/- Type: 2b/M/ii/iii | | Re: Keeping Splits at Bay: Secrets of Gently Handling your Hair | | Ok, I might be obsessed but anyway... I was looking for splits just now, against the light background of the LHC backup-boards. I didn't find any... But when I moved the piece of hair I was looking at a few inches, so that the black color of my keyboard was behind it, I saw all these white dots ! They were everywhere !!!!! Then I wondered.. could that be the light from the computer screen being trapped inside the hair ? Just like these fiber-optic threads ? You see the color of the light that is running through more intensely at the end of the fiber. Can that be the issue here ? Or do I have a zillion white dots in my hair ??? What you said could be the cause only if your hair is light coloured. From my experience I can say white dots = trouble. In no light did a healthy end look white to me until now. I also noticed plenty of them couple of time ago. I just made myself one hour a week for split end hunting, and improvement is visible! It made me very sad But after reading your article again I felt better. Starting off can be daunting but I'll get there in the end! I need to find something dark to contrast my hair better.
