does anyone work in an eye doctor's office?

thought i'd post this here as you guys always give great information!

i want to switch back to glasses because i am trying to stop using products that are tested on animals. this means no more contacts

anywho.... the places i go NEVER adjust my glasses right. one of my ears is just slightly higher then the other (you'd never notice if you saw me, but it makes a difference when i wear glasses) and adjusting my glasses has never worked despite their insisting that it will... i think i need something to actually fill in the space on one side so that they wont sit lopsided.... is this ever done? Or is it going to just be impossible for me to wear straight glasses?

TIA!

Re: does anyone work in an eye doctor's office?

Have you tried adjusting them yourself? If one ear is higher than the other, then one arm of your glasses needs to be higher than the other too. You might want to get a cheap pair of sunglasses to practice on. It's kind of tricky to adjust glasses at first (especially the plastic frames), but once you figure out exactly what needs to be adjusted, it shouldn't be too hard to bend them into the right shape.

Re: does anyone work in an eye doctor's office?

yeah i've tried it that way. tweaking the sides to go a bit higher only throws off the way they sit on my nose. the sides shouldnt have to be altered... i'd actually like them both in line with each other, with something extra under the one that goes over my ear that isnt as high.... does that make sense?

right now i can wear glasses perfectly straight if i just push one side up a little higher so that it isnt sitting on my ear on the one side, but that's annoying and frustrates me all day... i actually hate glasses with a passion and dont like anything sitting on my face. maybe i shouldnt bother

Re: does anyone work in an eye doctor's office?

Hmm.. I don't think I've ever heard of that done. Maybe you could try sewing thin fabric around one of the earpieces or putting electrical tape? Or even get pince-nez (but that may be hard to get used to).

I have the same problem, but they just adjusted my glasses so that the arms go off at different angles. I don't think anyone can tell they aren't parallel unless I put them on the table.

hmmm... maybe i'd better just shop around. the places i have gone have just done it all wrong and i've never worn the glasses... it must work if that's what they do for other people. maybe i just got a bad adjustment

Re: does anyone work in an eye doctor's office?

My glasses all sit ****-eyed on the table, but they fit well enough on my head.

My suggestion would be not only to ask about at various shops, but also to try different types of frames...

Metal frames have always given me a lot more trouble than plastic.
