What IS a fairytale ending?

Just wondering because I have seen a few references to them here.. but nobody explains them. Some even seem downright cranky about them.... so what's all the fuss about??? Hmmmm???

Re: What IS a fairytale ending?

"Fairytail ends" are when the bottom of your hair tapers gradually down to nothing, rather than being trimmed to a specific shape.

It is a style choice.

Re: What IS a fairytale ending?

Several members discussed *why* they have/like fairy tale ends in this thread starting with post #51 in this thread.

Just for the record, many people who have fairy tale ends have them because that is how nature grows their hair. Fairy tale ends are not a sign of neglecting the hair.

Boy, wish MY fairy tale/tail ends looked like yours - would be proud to show them off, if they did! Mine taper off to such fine wisps you can't see them.

Like in this pic, the ends actually go quite a way down, but you can't see them! And the hem line is just awful. I never wear my hear down.... :o(

Re: What IS a fairytale ending?

Thank you for the explanation! Is there anyway of telling whether the majority of people would have this effect if they didn't trim it out?

Thanks, Peggy, but I told you before that your hair is quite beautiful too and you make such beautiful updos and hair toys. (Is there a "shaking my finger at you" smiley???)

Re: What IS a fairytale ending?

Liluri, fairytail ends are kinda the default setting, if no trims are done to maintain a blunt hemline then most people will end up with them.

I have fairytail ends but I call mine nightmare ends cause they end up looking like a spike or dagger when twisted slightly:

Some people do not get the fairy tales, despite years of growing. But it seems many people do.

I'm having a good bit of a chuckle on this one.

First the O.P. subject line: What is a fairy tale ending?
Some caught on to that already!

Now, "...if they didn't trim it out." So cute!

I get the question though. It's not exactly that people trim "out" fairy tale ends, or any hint of things arriving that way. Those who trim somehow on a fairly regular basis will tend to have a shaped hemline whether it's straight across, u shaped, v shaped or otherwise.....

In answer, yes, most people would end up with wispiness if they never trimmed, ever, and definitely an uneven hemline. Exhibit A: CDV (a type of photo) or old tintypes showing women and their hair. In days of yore, trimming wasn't typically done.

The reason this would occur in part is easily explained by the fact that hair about the entire head does not grow the same length or thickness for the average head of hair. Temple region, for example, tends to grow a little less dense (thick), and be in general a bit shorter than the center strip of hair down the back of the head. If one never trimmed or "evened" the line up, then you'd be left with the complete expression of how hair grows.

Re: What IS a fairytale ending?

I like to think of Fairytale ends as "au naturel", what hair does when its
scissor free. I love both the blunt and fairytale look. Both are beautiful.
Not sure what I will choose, as Im still growing right now, but with my
wavy hair, I think fairytale would look nice, but have seen blunt wavies too,hmm...
so much to think about.

Daedalus, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice photo! Niiiiiiiiiiiice hair!
Nightmare ends? well maybe, I think they are groovy little horns, and only when they spin out to 3-5 hairs do I give them "the chop"
