How to take care of them? How to take all the wrinkles out after a washing? Iron on high or low? Where to buy good ones? Thanks in advance for any feedback! | | | November 15th, 2006, 09:55 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Meet me in St. Louis, Louis, meet me at the fair / Don't tell me the lights are shining any place but there Posts: 3,088 Length: 19/NFI/32+ Type: 1c/2a/F/M/iii | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | | | | November 16th, 2006, 12:52 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 52 Length: 24.5/35.5/36 Type: 1a/F/ii | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | Thank you, snowbear for the links...very informative! I do have a satin pillowcase...and I am sure it is polyester and I love it. I am not very good about taking care of delicate things, so I usually throw mine in with the sheets on "change your sheet" day. I don't iron, so they don't get ironed. I bought mine at a Fred Meyer's store - nothing special. HTH! I was thinking about making one | | | November 16th, 2006, 06:46 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: Northwest Louisiana Age: 55 Posts: 909 Length: 21/29/37 Type: 1b/F/i | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | I got mine here about 5 years ago http://www.tenderheaded.com/satpil.html They have held up well and are easy care. __________________ Every mighty oak was once just a nut that stood it's ground. | | | November 16th, 2006, 08:26 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: lexington, ky Age: 36 Posts: 190 Length: 0.5/24/35+ Type: 1c/F/ii | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | Mine make a huge difference. I wash them on the delicates setting with cheer for darks. To dry, I stick them in the dryer until just damp, then hang them or sometimes just fold them. They don't seem to need ironing. I got mine at tenderheaded.com as well. __________________ ···my cpu lies, but still i roam ··· | | | November 17th, 2006, 01:05 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Jumping into the Guardian of Forever Posts: 561 Length: ~ 17"/38"/Class Type: 1a/M/ii/iii | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | Bed, Bath and Beyond has poly satin starting around $15 - $20. Hehe it was fun to come on a thread and see someone else linked to a thread I started ... wasn't expecting that. I got my first pair off ebay - they were made by hand by some seller and were decent quality, and about half price of what the shops were. I have a pair on my Christmas list now... I love them - they are so much better than cotton, smoother - my hair seems less oily after a night of moving about. When I was them I wash them in the machine with like colors, cold setting, and line dry them. I don't do much ironing so just slip them back on, they dry quickly. It's probably best to hand wash them but I don't make time for that, so use a gentle cycle. | | | November 17th, 2006, 04:52 AM | #8 | | Administrator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Idaho-ho-ho Age: 49 Posts: 10,168 Length: 4"/39.9"/40+"? I have slept on acetate and/or poly satin for YEARS. They're easy to care for, and are GREAT for not only the hair, but for the face (they SAY that it reduces wrinkles, and that's an issue for me, as I'm in my late-thirties. My VERY late thirties...I'm forty-three. | | | November 17th, 2006, 05:35 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: South Wales, UK Posts: 108 Type: 1a/F/i | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | Well I like satin anyway! I didn't know it could be good for the hair though. Won't it increase static? I might just have to search on ebay now for a pressie for my husband to buy me, I like the luxurious things like satin! | | | November 17th, 2006, 06:52 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Oct 2005 Posts: 830 Length: 20/38/50 | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | I like my satin pillow cases but sometimes I have a problem with them sliding out from underneath my head at night and causing a loss of sleep. I've been sleeping on cotton here lately, for just that reason. To avoid wrinkles in the fabric I hand wash my satin pillow cases and then hang them up to drip dry. They seem to dry VERY quickly. I think the spinning action in the washer is what really hurts them- wrinkle wise. Hand wash, hang dry. __________________ "Having to test deep conditioners is a lot like having to test chocolates." ~Flaxen "It must be nice to always have company, even if it is yourself." ~Morticia | | | November 17th, 2006, 07:35 AM | #11 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Hill Country, Central TX Age: 54 Posts: 4,017 Length: 39"/55"/??? I've been using polyester satin pillowcases for several years, I think I'd like to try a real silk one, maybe I'll get myself one for Christmas. | | | November 17th, 2006, 07:48 AM | #12 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jul 2005 Posts: 326 Length: 31.5/29/WL Type: 3b/M/C/ii/iii | | Re: Satin pillow cases... | | I only sleep on satin pillowcases now. I know that with cotton pillowcases my curls would end up matted in the morning, and it would take longer for me to detangle my hair with my fingers two, each morning. Now it takes a few minutes for me me to detangle my hair in the mornings now, which is much better for me time-wise. __________________ "Curls Tester" | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
