Time flies) and their hair is growing like crazy! I don't want to cut their bangs, but their hair is getting to the point where it's long enough to kind of hang in their eyes. I've tried barrettes (they pull 'em right out!), clippies (same thing - pulled out instantly), the "waterspout" hairdo with the little ponytail right on top of their heads (so cute, but I am having trouble finding any elastics small enough for their fine hair) - nothing works! Have any of you had success with certain styles or products for your toddler girl's hair? Help? | | | November 6th, 2006, 04:46 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Illinois Age: 49 Posts: 425 Length: 12 in/31 in/40 in Type: 1a/1b/M/ii | | Re: Tips for toddler bangs? | | My daughters use these tiny little elastics that are either black or clear. They have worked wonders for the little ones. If I could post a picture of them, I would. My oldest granddaughter is 4 years old with hair to her butt. She has never had her bangs cut. This was my only request of my girls. Her mother went through heck trying to keep her bangs out of her eyes. A lot of times, she combed it back while it was wet. The effort she put into it was well worth it because she is one of the only girls that does not have the usual cut straight across bang. I will also add that she adores her hair and if anyone tries to come at her with scissors, she would fight them off like a lioness. tehe. Anyway, the new baby is about the same age as your adorable little girls. Her mother, my youngest daughter, is going through the same. She also refuses to cut her daughter's hair and now uses the tiny elastics. Oh, BTW, I think Goode makes them, or it is Scunci. Either way, they can be purchased at Wal Mart, Walgreens, Target or the grocery store (we have Jewel in Illinois, which carries just about everything). I hope this helps. And, whatever you do, resist the urge to cut the bangs. They will grow out, it just takes time. I know this from experience as I had cut my daughters bangs and just two years ago they were finally grown out. (My girls are 24 and 20) Once they are there, they tend to stay. Good Luck! And, your girls are absolute angels. __________________ Have a Great Hair Day! They are little angels...most of the time (hee hee). They've learned what "temper tantrums" are already - yikes! I'll check on the little elastics - getting them to hold still while I put their hair up is tough sometimes, too, but I'm trying to teach them that it's just what we have to do! | | | November 6th, 2006, 05:56 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Hair heaven Posts: 31 Length: 12"/25"/34" Type: 1b/M/ii | | Re: Tips for toddler bangs? | | The little elastics are the only thing that works (mom of 4 dds talking here ). I made the mistake of cutting bangs with my first dd--you're wise not to go there! My 2-yo still rips barrettes and elastics out of her hair (with hair attached *eek*), but the hair-in-the-eyes (and food) isn't a good look. | | | November 6th, 2006, 06:00 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Hair heaven Posts: 31 Length: 12"/25"/34" Type: 1b/M/ii | | Re: Tips for toddler bangs? | | Oh, and good luck with getting them to hold still, lol. My second dd is the only one who stays still long enough, but she requests fancier hair-dos. Most days it's all I can do to get the others ones to let me comb it. I've found it effective to sit cross-legged with my legs over their legs to hold 'em still. Sitting them on the edge of the sink with their toes in the water sometimes works as well. | | | November 6th, 2006, 07:15 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Orange County, CA Age: 40 Posts: 41 Type: 1b/1c/M/C/ii | | Re: Tips for toddler bangs? | | I also would suggest the tiny hair elastics. That's what I did for my twin girls because I didn't want them to have bangs. The waterspout style was popular but I also discovered that I could pull them off to one side & have it look really cute. It took quite a few tries to get it to look decent (I remember the squiggly stage!). My girls are turning 6 next month so they can sit still now for a hair styling. In fact, one of my daughters will take notes of how other girls in her class do their hair, and explain to me in great detail so that I can replicate it for her! | | | November 7th, 2006, 02:54 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Ontario, Canada Age: 49 Posts: 2,597 Length: 22.75/28"/36" Type: 1a/F/ii | | Re: Tips for toddler bangs? | | Do they still sell those knitted mini-scrunchies? When my daughter was a toddler, they were the only things that kept her "waterspout" hairdo up. She had/has exceptionally fine hair and they worked like a charm. I still remember how everyone said she looked like Cindy Lou Hoo, from the Grinch cartoon. I know that Goody used to sell them, but I haven't had need to look for them lately, so I'm not sure they still do. __________________ Franny April 1, 2007--Click “It doesn't matter how long my hair is or what colour my skin is or whether I'm a woman or a man.”--John Lennon | | | November 15th, 2006, 05:56 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Illinois Age: 49 Posts: 425 Length: 12 in/31 in/40 in Type: 1a/1b/M/ii | | Re: Tips for toddler bangs? | | Quote: | Originally Posted by frannyg Do they still sell those knitted mini-scrunchies? I am going to get some for my daughters babies. As far as the little ones sitting still, all I can say is as time goes on they learn to expect it and begin to stop fighting. I am going to scan a picture that I have of Alyssa with double waterspouts. She looks so adorable. BRB __________________ Have a Great Hair Day!
