Cheek swab..find out where your hair genes really come from!

.
Many of us hear "I'm part this" or "I'm part that" all the time.

But until now, we've had to rely on what's been said handed
down through grandparents and even older relatives.

"Oh yes, your great-great grandmother was full blood
Chippewa."
is what I'm always told. Maybe I'll get to find out
how much of that I possibly inherited?

On the CBS EVENING news this evening,
a report about genetics came on, commanding my
interest.

Seems a company offers services to swab the inside of your
cheek to determine one's percentage of descent, being
African, European, Native American, or Asian.

Cool! I thought my hubby was going to drop out of his chair!
He is absolutely excited about this and has been talking about
this since I've known him. You would have to feel this man's
skull to see why he is so excited about this test. He
swears he is part cro-magnon man, but I don't think that
is covered on this test.

He immediately asked how much and then spent ten minutes
debating whether to order, but I know he's just dying to
get this test, so I'll share the secret with you all.
When he went into the kitchen, I ordered it for him!

I'm not sure how long it will take to get, but I am excited for him!

See for yourself!

WOW!!! That is amazing (and I guess it is a reasonable price for DNA testing! )

I would probably do it, if I had any "history" that was worth knowing about! My family on Dad's side is English, my Mom's side is Irish . . . nothing great anywhere there! Unless I"m related to royalty or something but I SERIOUSLY doubt that! hahahaahahahahahahaaa

SO, I guess I'll just be plain ol' Tbear!!

KM, you've gotta tell us how things turn out!!!

HUGS

That sounds really neat! especially if you're of a really mixed ancestry...

Unfortonately, I'm 100% mediterranean -- Spanish, Italian, and Arabic...so my tests would just come back like "European" so in my case it wouldn't be very useful...

What was more fun was when my grandparents had a geneologist trace the family line -- they managed to trace back half of the family to the 600's in Spain (only because they were nobility, so there were plenty of records)...that was really cool!

This is fascinating, thanks for sharing this Accolady

I'd get this done in a heartbeat if I had the money. My own hair tells me my history would probably be pretty interesting. Like your hubby, I've always secretely wondered...

You've got me thinking...

I wonder what that test would say about me. I mean, I'm technically Asian(Filipino), but my hair totally says otherwise. Now recently I found out my mom's maiden name is Portuguese (which makes sense because wasn't Magellan Portugese? He did die in the Philippine Islands), and I know her mom's maiden name is Spanish or Portugese for sure, so....I wonder what percentage of European I'd have in me.

But I do have a question: if Asian people are "suppose" to have stick-straight hair, what becomes of me, knowing that native Filipinos have kinky hair, and the Europeans who occupied those islands had wavy/curly hair, yet almost all my Filipino friends/relatives have straight hair? Granted there are a lot of Chinese people in the mix, too, and straight hair IS dominant in the Philippines, so...

Man, I wish I saw that show tonight! (excuse my rambling)
