Flat Crown AND crispy ends

Hey all,

I'm a new user... I love this forum, I no longer feel so alone having this obsession.

Someone asked a while ago how to deal with second-day hair that "snaps" when you comb it. Not only do I have this problem on a consistent basis (and I fear I am doing great damage to my BSL hair) but I also have messy ends at the same time. My hair is abundant, fine and wavy, and I like that texture, but the ends ruin it. Actually I had waist length hair awhile ago but it looked straggly, so got a trim a few months ago out of resignation. The ends either frizz, curl in a strange way, or at best, end up greasy and stringy, forming little "coils" or bunches that go nowhere. I also occasionally have flatness at the crown of my head which makes me look tired and run-down. I tried teasing it a little with a fine toothed comb and the results are very good but I am afraid this is bad for my hair.

I am very happy with my hair and don't want to start heat styling it. But I am just about ready to throw my hands up because of these issues. I feel that my hair is happiest when styled curly, but when it's this long it doesn't curl more than halfheartedly.

Stop the teasing! Try oil on the ends (most folks like jojoba). If you feel flat at the crown, try a roll on each side pulled into a barrette, or french braids on each side again meeting in a barrette in back. Both styles add some fullness to your crown and look beautiful. BSL should be a celebration! Enjoy!

Re: Flat Crown AND crispy ends

Aloe gel works wonders to define curl definition and de-frizz for me. Also to get some good lift at the root level, I sometimes like to use corn starch or baby powder on the roots. And maybe , since you are so curly, you should try not to comb it so often? CurlsGirl never combs her hair between washes. Maybe she will check in here soon
Combing and Brushing break up curl definition. Brushing can be almost an absolute death sentence on curly hair.

Re: Flat Crown AND crispy ends

I don't have any suggestions for flatness on the top, but as for the rest, you might try kimberlily's defrizz spray. I find it very helpful in delivering oil and aloe without overdoing it. It works great as a detangling spray.
