I kinda gave it up when i was living with my ex as she found even the smell of it turned her stomach, and though i've been meaning to get more, well, what i MEAN to do and what actually gets done are two completely different things!! lol So anyway, i know people tend to fall into 1 of 2 camps, those who LOVE marmite, and those who HATE it! Which camp are you guys in?? __________________ The heart would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears. | | | September 12th, 2006, 07:22 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: England Age: 23 Posts: 5,488 Length: 22.5/??/?? I always use it to pep up peanut butter sandwiches: must be granary or wholemeal bread, and Sunpat crunchy peanut butter. | | | September 12th, 2006, 07:39 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: london Age: 35 Posts: 2,604 Length: crop/bra/hip+ Type: 2a/F/ii | | Re: Marmite, love it or hate it? | | I do that Tabitha, except i put the marmite and peanut butter on wholemeal or granary toast! __________________ The heart would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears. | | | September 12th, 2006, 08:01 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Palatine, Illinois Age: 25 Posts: 1,218 Length: 2/24/45 Type: 3a/M/ii/iii | | Re: Marmite, love it or hate it? | | When I went to the UK and tried some I didn't like it. I wouldn't say I hate it though. | | | September 12th, 2006, 08:51 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: BFE Posts: 7,970 Length: 18"?/36"/40" Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | | Re: Marmite, love it or hate it? | | What is it? Some kind of marmalade? It sounds like it's something you spread on toast. What is it made of? I'm curious. | | | September 12th, 2006, 08:56 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Mars, obviously. Posts: 1,255 Length: bob/25/? The full ingredients are: yeast extract, salt, vegetable extract, niacin, thiamin, spice extracts, riboflavin, folic acid celery extract, vitamin B12 It isn't sweet, but savory and has a sharp flavour and a dark brown colour and something most Brits have a strong opinion on. Many of us are brought up on it. My favorite way is smeared on salt rising toast. Then I eat it with scrambled eggs (yummmm!) Of course I love salty things, I love chinese thick soy sauce by itself, and I drink pickle juice. My favorite sandwich is to smear one side of whole wheat dense bread with Marmite and smear the other side with philadelphia cream cheese. Then I cut it into little tiny pieces and eat it with Cordon Negro sparkling wine. Have you tried a marmite sandwich with a fried egg (fried in browned butter). Also super yummy. Now I'm hungry. | | | September 12th, 2006, 09:13 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: london Age: 35 Posts: 2,604 Length: crop/bra/hip+ Type: 2a/F/ii | | Re: Marmite, love it or hate it? | | Gladtobemom, i don't normally eat eggs, although i do allow myself them sometimes. But the marmite and scrambled egg of fried egg sarnie sounds great! I must say, i can't imagine DRINKING pickle juice! Isn't that basically vinegar? I'm sure i'd throw up. __________________ The heart would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears. | | | September 12th, 2006, 09:15 AM | #11 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: BFE Posts: 7,970 Length: 18"?/36"/40" Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | | Re: Marmite, love it or hate it? | | Quote: | Originally Posted by Tai Shan Fan It isn't a kind of marmalade, but you do spread it on bread. It's extremely rich in B vitamins. | | | September 12th, 2006, 09:27 AM | #13 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Lexington, KY Posts: 1,116 Length: 15"/32"/36" Type: 2b/2c/M/ii | | Re: Marmite, love it or hate it? | | If you like nutritional yeast's quasi-smokey flavor, you'll probably like it. It's a very intense flavor. Sometimes I just coat the back of a spoon with it and sort of take tinylicks at the edges of it. This works really well when I'm drinking a dry wine. My kids all love it too. My husband hates it. People tell me it's an aquired taste. I tried it the first time when I was at school in Exeter. I loved it from the first taste. | | | September 12th, 2006, 09:31 AM | #14 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 2,088 Length: pixie/25/?? Thing is, i OD on them, last time i brought a pack it was one of those party sized bags, except no1 but me was invited! Anyway, my mouth got so sore by the end of the bag but i was like a woman posessed! It made the skin inside my mouth shed though so i lay off them now. __________________ The heart would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
