In the summer, I like to use a subtle self tanner so I don't cause accidents from the glare off my white legs. Seems that even if I wash my hands within milliseconds of applying it, it still manages to stain my fingernails. I don't really want to have to bother with nail polish to cover up the self tanner stains. I'm thinking of trying to put on just a bit of lemon juice on my nails every day to see if that helps. Does anyone have any suggestions? My nails are quite strong and healthy but the stains look nasty. | | | August 21st, 2006, 01:46 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: LHC Age: 42 Posts: 3,279 Length: 20/32/37 Type: 1a/C/ii/iii | | Re: Self tanner and nails | | I've heard that Crest whitestrips applied to your nails will help with discoloration. | | | August 21st, 2006, 04:29 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: south Posts: 118 Type: 1c/F/M/ | | Re: Self tanner and nails | | If you get the very thin (clear, throw aways) gloves, they work perfectly. That's what I use. | | | August 22nd, 2006, 10:29 AM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jul 2006 Age: 49 Posts: 1,374 Length: 24/27/39 Type: 1c/F/M/ii | | Re: Self tanner and nails | | Morticia, I had some Crest White Strips so I gave it a go and they worked quite well! I have two nails which are the prime offenders and I think they could use one more treatment but I think that will clear it up. The remainder of my nails look quite lovely and bright. Thanks so much for this suggestion! It also gave me the idea of running a toothbrush over them at night when I brush my teeth. I think that may maintain the color...or lack thereof! Anyway, great suggestion. Thanks so much! | | | August 22nd, 2006, 11:52 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: LHC Age: 42 Posts: 3,279 Length: 20/32/37 Type: 1a/C/ii/iii | | Re: Self tanner and nails | | I'm glad it worked. Seems to help. __________________ ~~Corinne | | | August 24th, 2006, 01:36 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jul 2006 Age: 49 Posts: 1,374 Length: 24/27/39 Type: 1c/F/M/ii | | Re: Self tanner and nails | | Hey, great suggestions all! I used an old toothbrush this morning and brushed my nails after putting on the tanner. I just used toothpaste but I will try some baking soda next. I think this will maintain the bleaching done by the white strips. At any rate, my nails look SO much better than they did a few days ago.
