I know, from reading past entries, that some of you do, but I was wondering how this affects the shelf-life of the mister. Usually, if you leave tap water in a bottle, it starts to get stinky after about 3 days... Some people use distilled water too. My spritzer lasts for at least two weeks with distilled water. I'm not sure why tap water shouldn't work just as well. | | | July 16th, 2006, 12:22 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Japan Age: 29 Posts: 201 Length: 16"/Tb/40" Type: 1b/1c/M/ii | | Re: water in my mister... | | I also use tap water in my mister...and leave it in there until I use it up, which is usually a couple of months. Hmm...maybe not such a good idea. __________________ | | | July 16th, 2006, 12:53 AM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2006 Location: Malaysia Age: 23 Posts: 741 Length: 24"/21.5"/30++ Type: 1b/F/M/ii | Re: water in my mister... | | It gets stinky? I use filtered tap water and so far, so good... I've had my mister for about a month now. Maybe the perfume oil is covering the smell. | | | July 16th, 2006, 03:59 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Paradise Garage Age: 56 Posts: 6,570 Length: 17"/hip/bc Type: 1b/1c/M/iii | | Re: water in my mister... | | The one and only time I used tap water I had little floatie thingies in it by the second week. We have excellent well water and a filtered system. So now I use distilled water. It's cheap, pennies for a gallon and I use it for my iron too. | | | July 16th, 2006, 04:15 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2003 Location: In the castles of my mind Posts: 2,630 Length: ??/21+/?? Of course, I use up the water in it in less than a week, so it doesn't sit for very long. I mist my hair often and it's a small bottle. If you have a problem with "spoilage," perhaps you could fill it fresh every day? __________________ THE ONE YEAR HAIR VOW July 8, 2006 - July 8, 2007 Life ain't always beautiful, but it's a beautiful life. | | | July 22nd, 2006, 11:48 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cambridge, UK Age: 31 Posts: 44 Length: 28/34/42 Type: 3a/3b/M/ii/iii | | Re: water in my mister... | | OK, so I got a smaller mister bottle, and I'm having less problems with smelly water. That said, as an experiment, two days ago, I made a point of just filling one with water and leaving it by my bed (i.e., not the fridge!) and made sure the lid was on. Today, when I opened for a sniff, it was a bit musty and gross. Just a warning for those who might be spraying musty water on their hair, and not realising because of the strong oil scent! Not sure what harm it would do, but I think smaller quantities, in a fresh state, is nicer... :o) | | | July 22nd, 2006, 12:43 PM | #8 | | Moderator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Central Tejas Age: 49 Posts: 12,727 Type: 2b/2c/F/i | | Re: water in my mister... | | I use distilled water, but I use it in my iron, too. I don't use my mister often enough for me to feel safe that little germies aren't growing in that bottle from using tap water. I'll stick with Distilled! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
