So today I thought, as I am not a big birthday party person, this would be a nice occasion for a party to see all my friends again. What do you think, nice occasion or a tacky thing to do because it so obviously celebrates me , somehow? | | | May 22nd, 2006, 10:11 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: Sweden Age: 25 Posts: 1,489 Length: 20"/28"/waist Type: 1b/1c/F/ii | | Re: Graduation party...tacky or not? | | I say go for it! A good party at the end of your exams can't be wrong. __________________ | | | May 22nd, 2006, 10:11 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Canada Age: 54 Posts: 6,960 Length: 14/20+/BSL Type: 2c/3a/M/C/iii | | Re: Graduation party...tacky or not? | | I think that people love any excuse for a party, so why not throw a big bash for yourself, it'll definitely be a reason for all of you to get together and you can have the party of a lifetime. I know lots of people who give parties for themselves. Have fun and also congratulations on your school accomplishments. Or am I misreading your reference to birthdays? Oh what the heck, just have a party and have fun. Let it be just a get-together with you and your friends. It would be okay to ask one or two local friends to help with the planning, setup and cleanup, if you ask well in advance and don't ask them to spend a lot of money. People may bring gifts, so be prepared to thank them graciously and set the gifts aside quietly so it doesn't make people who didn't bring gifts uncomfortable. Have fun! | | | May 22nd, 2006, 05:29 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Salt Lake City, UT Age: 34 Posts: 1,143 Length: 20/24/26 Type: 2b/F/ii | | Re: Graduation party...tacky or not? | | I say party!!!! I am too depressed to throw a party for myself for graduation, and am even considering cancelling my birthday party thatI was planning (which is two weeks before graduation), but I would still like one. You should have a party. It was not overly festive, then again, I'm not really a 'partying' type of gal. I say, celebrate in whatever way you are most comfortable. If you and your friends are used to going out and partying, then that would probably be the best way to acknowledge the occassion. If you are like me and like things a bit more quiet, a nice dinner may be more suitable. In the end, it's quite okay to celebrate your achievement. You definitely earned it! | | | May 23rd, 2006, 08:21 AM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2003 Location: USA Posts: 2,044 Length: 6 in./57.5/5'1" | | Re: Graduation party...tacky or not? | | Quote: | Originally Posted by E. If you're worried about gifts, have the invites specify no gifts, or donations only to their preferred charity, or to your preferred charity. Another way, is to get a group of your friends with whom are you are graduating (they're graduating too), and have it be an event for all of you. Nothing wrong with a little chest pounding, back patting and all. heidi w. __________________ The Lady with the Lamp photo: Mr. Lady Godiva, New Year's 2005 Thought for the day: "Never take grebeners from a moyel." | | | May 23rd, 2006, 03:05 PM | #13 | | Moderator Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: East Coast of the USA Posts: 5,101 | | Re: Graduation party...tacky or not? | | Quote: | Originally Posted by E.
