a little bit of wurmfood's hair

Wee! Ok, joined last night (it's all your fault, beelady! ) and figure I should go ahead and start actually doing something here.

So, little about me first, then my hair.

Me: Freak, geek, slacker, weirdo. Lived a number of places in the western half of the US and have finally settled in San Francisco, possibly one of the most wonderful cities in the world.

My hair: Growing up I always had short hair, and always hated it. I felt like such a dork with the proper parted short hair thing. Finally, junior year in high school (about.. 7 years ago.. shesh, it's been that long?) I told my parents I didn't care, I was growing my hair out. They just requested I keep it short until after pics. Fine.

Struggled through the in-between phase where my hair was too short to really look decent and was constantly being told to cut it. Ignored all of them and kept growing it. During this time I went to a barber to get my hair trimmed twice. I have never been back. First time the guy cut it too short. Second time, I went to a salon figuring they'd know what they were doing. My girlfriend fixed it and was the only person I'd let cut it for a long time after that. No one got close to my hair with scissors. Even after we stopped dating she was the only one to trim it.

Of course, not being raised with long hair in mind, I had no clue how to take care of it so just started using random shampoo and conditioner, whatever seemed to work. Eventually had female friends yelling at me for my choices in hair care products so started following their recomendations.

I've tried doing any number of things over the years, but there are a couple things that have always been (and continue to be) problems for me.

1) Split ends. I have them bad, and no clue how to fix that.
2) I shed like crazy. I always have. My hair gets everywhere. I've walked into a house, not gone near the kitchen, yet had my hair end up in the food.
3) I have no clue how to take care of hair, really. I just take what little advice I've gotten and switched to products recomended to me by friends.

Measuring from the top of my head (since I have no idea where you're supposed to measure from) my hair is about 24" long on average. However, there are many many shorter strands and the ones from the front of my scalp generally aren't very long at all (<12")

Following Fia's Hairtyping System from the FAQ, I have:
1aFi

I notice the system doesn't include dry/oily/whatever, but I have very oily hair and so must wash my hair daily or it begins to feel disgusting.

Current products that I use:
Shampoo: Either Infusium 23 Maximum Body or Biosilk Silk Therapy Shampoo
Conditioner: Infusium 23 Maximum Body
Treatment: Recently started using Biosilk Silk Therapy, a small amount daily, which I love.

When I do comb my hair it's with a wide tooth plastic comb that a friend forced me to buy and stop using the dog brush (used to work in a pet store) that I'd had and used for years (hey, it worked, and I didn't know any better).

That's about where I am. Would really like to get my hair to my waist and have it rather consistent.

Well, that's about all the time I have for now, time to head to the club for some nice goth/industrial music. Weee!

General stuff

Well, it's now been about 14 hours since I've had a cigarette. I really want one but am doing suprisingly well...

On the hair front, looking to try to put to use some of the advice I've gotten so far. I think one of the major things I need to learn soon is how to braid my own hair. I think I'll work on that tonight while waiting for people.

Overall, it looks like a lot of what I'm doing is right or at least close, but I never have my hair back and I think that's causing problems, especially when sleeping. Hopefully just doing that will make some difference.

Other than that, I really need a trim. I think I'll ask my boss to do that this weekend. I'll sit down sometime after that and make sure all the split ends are gone.

Several things to note.

1) Haven't had a cigarette in several days. Doing quiet well, amazingly, though I still really want one.

2) Hair stuff arrived for me today!

Ya'll are a bad influence on me, I swear. Being curious, I went to the Morrocco Method website and ordered some stuff. I have now officially spent Too Much money on my hair, but oh well. Ordered the 4 5oz shampoos + 2 8oz conditioners to see what I like. Also got a brush (finally) and some red henna. I think I might dye my hair with it at some point, just for fun, but who knows. (not that my hair takes dye well, but maybe it will take this stuff.)

(Tries the brush out.)

Ok, so maybe this was worth it. We'll see.

Ok, definitely like the brush. Very cool. Brushed my hair for a while last night and was amazed at the difference it made.

Starting on trying the Morrocc Method stuff today. I was worried about how little there was for so much money, but according the instructions you use just a tiny bit.

Well, tried it. Very strange. It says you're supposed to rotate them so I figured it didn't really matter what I start with. I'm using earth right now and figure I'll use it for a week and then switch to the next in line. Smells very, well, earthy. Though Myrrh is very low on the ingredient list you can definitely smell it.

The one problem I have is that it doesn't really lather like shampoo I'm used to so it's hard to make sure I've actually washed my hair and not just a small part of it. However, as all of it does have the smell of myrrh, I'm pretty sure it washed through all of it.

Also ordered some vitamins last night. Hopefully they will help with my hair and nails. We'll see.

I can't believe how much money I've spent on this stuff lately. It's kinda strange. Oh well. Hopefully it will help.

Well, been using the MM for the last couple days. Having some issues with it, though.

1) The shampoo does not lather, it seems. I can tell it's getting to all of my hair, but that's only by the smell of the hair, not because I feel like I'm actually washing it.

2) My hair doesn't really feel clean, especially later in the day. I have very oily hair and it seems to be worse for now. Hopefully this will get better, but it's hard right now.

3) Part of number 2 is that my hair feels more coarse. Yeah, this is probably because I was using things that had a lot of 'cones in it before, but it's very strange to work with. My hair just doesn't flow like it used to. It does feel stronger, though. So it's a bit of a trade off.

Other than that.. Totally destroyed any semblance of being on a diet last night. Went to In & Out for dinner and got a double double, plain (like my burgers to be just meat, cheese, bread. nice, simple..). Then I went to Krispy Kremes and bought a dozen donuts. I ate 4 right then, and 5 later as I drank a tripple shot mocha with carmel.

I buzzed all night. It was great hanging out with friends and bouncing off the walls. Crashed around 1. Weee!

(FYI for those not familiar:
In & Out: Fast food burger joint that makes everything fresh. Really good stuff.
Krispy Kremes: Donuts that melt as you eat them. The plain glazed are to die for. At least I think so.)

So busy...

I haven't had much time to myself lately due to all kinds of things going on.

Work has been nuts - We're in the middle of a re-org; our group is going to be split into two groups, with my boss taking one half and I will most likely end up with the other. Our group is also taking a huge change in direction, and I think I'm happy with where it's going. It's going to put a lot more responsibility on me, but it should be good work. I just hope I'm up to the task. Lately there has been so much on me I haven't even been here except once or twice this week.

Personal life has been rather interesting, but almost non-existant outside of just a couple bits of time to myself. Baby-sat for a friend of mine last week, which was cool, but really made me realize how much I'd like to have kids at some point. I just know, though, that the universe likes to laugh at me enough that I'll have a little girl who will have me wrapped around her finger.

Hair (the Important Stuff), though, has been good. I tried morrocco for a while, but it was bugging me how oily my hair was all the time (a pet peeve of mine, my hair HAS to be clean). I have very oily hair and the shampoo just didn't seem to be strong enough to get the oil out.

Have been doing CWC method and it's been working very well. I've been using the Biosilk stuff I got for the first condition and for the shampoo and Infusium 23 for the second condition. I also treat the hair with another biosilk product after. My hair has been very happy, especially with the BBB I bought. I can't wait to start using the new comb I got. (Thanks Rhiannon!!)

My hair has been doing much better recently, it seems. I'm not sure if it's the washing method, the brush (heh, much better than my previous choice ), the vitamins I'm taking or what, but I'm really liking it. Now if I could just stop shedding so much.

Tried braiding my hair a while ago.. did ok, though I couldn't really see how it turned out. Felt ok, though. I just need to practice more so I can get the strands more even.

Sometime in the next couple days I'm going to try to catch up on the boards here, but I'm not sure I'll be able to. No spare time that I can really see, especiallys since I should be in bed already! I'm just happy that work bought me a laptop and I set up a wireless network at home so I can post from bed.

Ahh.. the simple pleasures.

Well, off to bed.. Maybe check in here in the morning. Weee!
