I was wondering if this is normal for after getting a cavity filled and it will go away, or if I need to be worried and make a dentist appointment? Thanks. | | | April 24th, 2006, 08:01 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Terre D'Ange Age: 32 Posts: 4,404 Length: 23.5/33/36 Type: 1c/M/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | Having had more dental work recently than I'd like I can think of a few possibilities: 1) the new filling changed your bite surface, making the other tooth more sensitive 2) you just need to heal a bit. My teeth always hurt a bit wheenver I get fillings, especially if you get the composite (tooth-colored) ones. According to my dentist they're not as soft as silver fillings, and cause more sensitivity. | | | April 24th, 2006, 08:18 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 125 Type: 1c/F/M/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | Hi, The upper molar on your left side. . .was it sensitive to hot AND cold before you had the filling? It's weird because the upper molar on my left side was sensitive to cold, and then I had the filling and realized it was sensitive to hot and cold. It was uncomfortable, but I waited it out a couple months and finally went back to the dentist. I had to have a root canal (which was actually pretty cool- wasn't painful AT ALL, and was more comfortable then having your teetch cleaned). It's odd because I brush, actually floss once a day, and mouthwash and still had to have a root canal at 18 years old. I would call the dentist and ask what they think you should do. Just in case. | | | April 24th, 2006, 08:28 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Beautiful Pacific Northwest Age: 53 Posts: 1,352 Length: ?/33/TBL Type: 1b/1c/F/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | I recently had a cavity filled, my first one in about 35 years! It wasn't even a very bad one, just a little one, but I was not prepared for how long it was sore, I would say it hurt for a good 2 months after getting it filled at least, and it didn't hurt at all before getting the filling. I asked my husband if he thought I should call the dentist (he's an expert, poor guy is always needing dental work), and he said every time he gets a tooth filled it hurts for a long time afterwards too. It's perfectly fine now though, hopefully yours will feel fine soon too. __________________ Deep peace of the running wave to you. Deep peace of the flowing air to you. It was somewhat sensitive before, not so much to hot and cold as it was to direct pressure (biting down on it funny) now its even worse, and it is the filling that blends with the color of the tooth. Maybe I should just wait it out awhile more, I hope I don't need a root canal, yipes. I'm glad yours didn't hurt LadyofShalott, the dentist I know is much nicer to go to these days then it was way back when (not from personal experience, but I've heard stories!) I suppose I'll just have to see how the tooth works out. | | | April 24th, 2006, 09:48 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: England Age: 23 Posts: 5,488 Length: 22.5/??/?? Probably nothing to worry about. | | | April 25th, 2006, 02:13 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: May 2005 Location: The Queen City Age: 49 Posts: 2,006 Length: 47 cm/62 cm/80 cm Type: 3a/M/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | A tooth can ache for many days from being drilled. Try eating dulse and see if that helps the tooth repair itself. It is a concentrated mineral food. If the tooth is infected, chew raw garlic and hold it between the gum and the cheek at the root of the tooth. The pain will double and then go away. | | | April 25th, 2006, 06:27 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Chicago-ish ;) Age: 31 Posts: 1,686 Length: Chin/BSL/waist Type: 2a/F/M/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | I had a tooth filled a couple of years ago that took about two months to completely stop hurting. Most of the time I don't have that problem. I think it will just subside. So unless it gets worse, I would just give it time. | | | April 25th, 2006, 11:43 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Salt Lake City, UT Age: 35 Posts: 1,143 Length: 20/24/26 Type: 2b/F/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | Almost every filling I have does that for a month or so. I wouldn't worry, I always figure it's just getting used to this new piece of material in your mouth that heats and cools at a different temperature than the rest of your tooth. Not sure why it goes away but it always does! __________________ My hair journal just in case anyone wants to read about me My photo gallery just in case anyone wants to look at me Got myself an egg! I've had more root canals than any living person I know. The dentist said that in filling the tooth, the root gets disturbed. Sometimes this goes away, as they said above, but in my case it just kept getting worse. They've drilled directly through new Emperial crowns I've had put on and filled it back with the same color and you can't even tell anything was done. I wish you luck! | | | April 25th, 2006, 03:12 PM | #11 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Somewhere Posts: 763 Type: 1c/2a/F/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | Whew, I hope it just goes away! Its not all the time, only when exposed mainly to the cold. I have had fillings before, and this didn't happen like this, its never hurt after, but maybe its just because it was a sensitive tooth to begin with. | | | April 26th, 2006, 03:59 AM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: Jumptown, MA Posts: 1,336 Length: 34/40/43.5+ Type: 1b/F/M/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | I have many fillings and most of them have been sensitive to hot/cold at one point. I think I've managed to get over it on one side of my mouth, if I eat cold things and chew them on the other side it still makes my mouth go 'ouch'. It can be studied by an X-ray (cavities & root-canal jobs- to- do will be seen as dark remercations in the X-ray) . Take this one from one who´s gone through several root canals and cavities eliminated. __________________ ...my sencibility is to go a little more manic and extreme and wild." - N. I had this happen when I got a crown put on and my tooth was extra sensitive to cold for months. Painful and annoying! The next time I had to put a crown on, I asked the dentist if it was going to be achy for months again afterwards and she said, 'why on earth didn't you call us? We have stuff that can help you with that.' | | | April 27th, 2006, 06:38 PM | #15 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Salt Lake City, UT Age: 35 Posts: 1,143 Length: 20/24/26 Type: 2b/F/ii | | Re: Question about teeth... | | All this dentist talk made me go in for a checkup... guess what???
