rhassoul clay/Lavaerde

Today I was at the health food store where I buy some of my hair goodies, and as a give-away (yes, at that store you always get give-aways ) the sales clerk gave me a small package of rhassoul clay (Lavaerde for the Germans). Rhassoul clay is a mineral powder that you just have to mix with some water. Than you apply it to your scalp, let it work for oone minute and rinse. After that, you have clean and shiny, hair wthout the drying effects of all the stuff that's in regular shampoo. Has anyone of you tried that stuff yet? I'll use it tomorrow morning, I'll let you know how it works for me.

I haven't tried it, but I've been eyeing the stuff. I'd love to hear your report!

Cheers,

This is the clay I use all the time (when I don't use shikakai) for hair cleaning and face exfoliating. Those who use Terressentials are also using Rhassoul for hair washing, for TE shampoos are based on Rhassoul clay.

I love this stuff - it is my favorite clay.

Clay...

Is this similar to the mud packs they have for hair? Do you know what benefits minerals have on hair? I've heard a lot about protein and their benefits (and also the problems!), but not much about minerals...

TIA!

Elle, I am not sure about benefits, but supposedly it is not stripping your hair. And from experience - it gives you a lot of body.

I don't know it those mud packs are based on Rhassoul, but it must be some kind of clay - and there are several of them out there. The thing I know about Rhassoul - it has the most 'pulling' propertie, that's why it is so good for cleaning.

So, this clay is used in place of shampoo??

Zoya, if you don't mind my asking... are you in the states or are you over in Europe? I'm curious because I've never heard of this clay before, and I'm wondering if it's available over here.

TIA!

I am in the US and I buy it from Sabia.com - they sell it as rocks and yes, I use it instead of shampoo.

Thanks, Zoya! I went to take a look at the Rhassoul Rocks. I have a couple of questions for you.

1. Does this clay rinse out easily?

2. Does it have any odor? Pleasant?

There wasn't much info on their site other than the fact that "hair is left supple, silky, easy to style". That in itself is v-e-r-y intriguing!

Thanks a lot!

Zoya, could you explain how you mix it or what you add to it? I'm sure you've posted this before, but I don't remember!

How do you apply it, and how long do you leave it in your hair?

Thanks!

Well, as I mentioned already, I buy Rhassoul in the form of rocks- Sabia's rocks are about 1" size. So what I do, I take 2 rocks and add some water to them - either regular, or distilled or if I really want to do something fancy - rose water. In 2 minutes the water is gone - absorbed by the clay, and the clay becomes very soft, like a toothpaste. When the clay is like this - it is great to use it as a face mask/exfoliator.
For my hair though I prefer the clay in more liquidy form - easier to apply. It is really nice to add some EO or a little bit of lemon juice may be. So I put it on my hair, trying not to pull much and leave it on until everything else is done. Then I wash it off - it takes some time, but usually I never have problems.
When I apply the clay, I do it above a large bowl, so the running liquid could be gathered applied again.

And one more thing. If you don't have Rhassoul easily available, use Shiakai/Amla mix - same idea, much cheaper.

I think...

I have to try this clay stuff!

Thanks for the info, Zoya!

And I've just looked into the Terressentials, Gabi... What's your hair type?
