When I worked in a bakery I had a chin length bob, and like many people with shorter hair I had to push it back behind my ears etc. We never had to wear hair nets, just hats. Although I now don't work with food at all, with long hair in an updo I almost never touch my hair at all! That said, one of the guys I worked with had a beard, and he had to wear a mini net round his chin that hooked over his ears. That was quite entertaining! take care Poppy x | | | April 1st, 2006, 03:18 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2003 Age: 44 Posts: 584 Length: 19/23/clsc Type: 2b/F/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Poppy Seed That said, one of the guys I worked with had a beard, and he had to wear a mini net round his chin that hooked over his ears. | ROTFL!! A customer complained about it, saying that it was unsanitary, or something, and my boss approached me about maybe wearing a bun, or under a hat. My feelings were hurt, and so this is when I started chopping my hair. I agree about the short hairs getting in food, too! Just wanted to share. | | | April 1st, 2006, 05:22 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2005 Age: 31 Posts: 636 Length: 1/7/30 Type: 4a/4b/F/iii | I have seen some seriously long hairs in my food before...I was eating a piece of cheesecake. Finally, made my way to the middle of it and when I lifted my fork there was a Long Brown strand about a footlong or longer. It was sickening. Everyone no matter what length of their hair should wear a net. When I worked at a coffee shop we had too...at first they told me I had to wear a net over my afro puff...my puff does not move and since it so curly the shed hair stays in my hair until manipulated. But the girls with loose ponytail wore their ponytails out and their hair moved and even a ponytail went into a milkshake without knowing. Yeah...I made a fuss, it wasn't fair tha I had to wear a net ( which they made such a scene about) well anyways another customer made a fuss too so EVErYONE , even with a loose ponytail slinging had to wear a net. | | | April 1st, 2006, 05:55 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Iowa Age: 51 Posts: 1,416 Length: 20?/35/48? It appears that whoever was making donuts that day wasn't wearing a hairnet. | | | April 1st, 2006, 06:22 AM | #7 | | Banned Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Age: 47 Posts: 89 Length: ???/36"/??? I can't think of anything that makes me gag more than hair in my food! | | | April 1st, 2006, 06:46 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2005 Age: 50 Posts: 1,920 Length: 23.5/24.5/30 Type: 1c/2a/F/ii | I agree with FroandBeyond that everyone working around food should have to wear a hairnet. Mom and I went out for pizza one day many, many years ago. We decided to eat at the restaurant rather than bringing it home. When Mom pulled a slice away from the pie, along with strands of cheese there also stretched a very long, thick blonde hair well over 12" long. The manager apologized every which way and offered to make another pizza, but my mother was pretty turned-off to pizza at that time and declined. We weren't charged for anything, and have never been back there since. __________________ Visit my journal! We were required to restrain our hair, put it in a ponytail or wear a hat. Personally I think it is better if "everyone" wears a hairnet even if their hair is short. Short hair falls out too! __________________ Starting Over, May 2007 | | | April 1st, 2006, 08:55 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: london Age: 35 Posts: 2,604 Length: crop/bra/hip+ Type: 2a/F/ii | You know, i could never understand this either. Yes long hair can get in food if its not contained, but somebody really should inform the people who make these rules that short haired people shed too! In my opinion it should be a blanket rule that all hair should be contained...long AND short. __________________ The heart would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears. | | | April 1st, 2006, 10:59 AM | #11 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Europe Posts: 933 Length: 22/27/35 Type: 1c/F/i/ii | Actually, once my hair is in a ponytail or a braid, how in the heck am I going to shed anywhere??? Having (other peoples) hair in your food is disgusting, but it's worse when you swallow half the hair, then notice, and pull out some already soured food with the hair that you can feel moving up your throat Anja __________________ Please don't PM me, email me, instead Cone-free CO once a week/every 3 weeks/for special occassions, scalp not (yet?) adjusting from daily washing (CO since 03/06), so I'm o/o most of the time. After I comb my hair & put it in a ponytail, a few loose hairs may be below the band, bunched up in the ponytail. They work their way down the ponytail until they can fall out. As for braiding... I'm notorious for leaving little wisps behind that can easily shed a hair or two. __________________ Visit my journal! If the rule is a hairnet then a hairnet for everyone it is! | | | April 1st, 2006, 02:48 PM | #14 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Japan Age: 29 Posts: 549 Length: 35.5"/41+"/class Type: 2a/M/iii | I've only ever found short hairs in my food! And when I worked in fast food, with waist-length hair, I never once had a complaint about someone finding one of my hairs in their food. I never had to wear a hairnet, the rule was hair had to be in a braid or bun, unless it was short. While my hair will still shed in a braid, the hairs only come out if I run my hand down the ends and then pull them out of the braid. So I do think that it's easier for a short hair to shed and fall into food or onto the benches. I think my hair was probably a bit too long to land on the benches when it shed. | | | April 2nd, 2006, 08:54 AM | #15 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: oxfordshire uk Age: 32 Posts: 1,653 Length: 21"/40"/43"cl Type: 1b/F/ii/iii | glad some people agree with me. i too am a net for one , net for all voter! to conclude, i went to a mac d in newbury today and noone had a net on! ewww. didnt notice till i had finished. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
