Aloe vera and coconut oil

So I was playing around with all my new hair stuff yesterday, and being inspired by Kimberlilly's hair butter (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...251#post692251) I decided to try mixing up something a little less heavy.

I melted down some coconut oil and mixed it about half and half with aloe. Using Kimberlilly's brilliant refridgerate/shake the hell out of it every few minutes techinique I managed to get a rather nice cream out of it. Made a killer lotion (I've become a coconut oil addict but it's a pain to spread it on skin what with the melting and the greasiness), and it was easier to apply to my hair than the "unmixed" coconut oil.

I'm probally not the first one to come up with this, but I felt like sharing

Re: Aloe vera and coconut oil

That sounds good. I just whipped up a batch of her butter and love it. I may have to try the aloe. Did you use the same ratios?

Re: Aloe vera and coconut oil

Teela, I never thought to add aloe to my hair butter. It sounds like it will make it a lighter-weight mix. I might have to try that when I run out, but will probably use different ratios.

Re: Aloe vera and coconut oil

It actually mixedup pretty good. I used about half and half aloe to coconut oil... It's not really super smooth, little dots of coconut oil in there but it melts faster than regular coconut oil.

kimberlilly's hair butter sounded a bit rich, and my hair seems to like aloe a lot. I think my next time around I'll try more aloe and less coconut. Maybe I'll pop in some jojoba just for kicks, who knows. It's fun experimenting with these mixes and things.

yes, it certainly is! My hair doesn't do well with c.o. alone, but aloe and honey are a winner. I'm going to try your recipe and add some honey to it. thanks for sharing the idea, teela. you guys are fantastic!

Re: Aloe vera and coconut oil

This sounds like the perfect facial moisturizer for the summer. I use straight coconut oil right now, but I won't need heavy moisture in a couple months. Woo hoo!

Re: Aloe vera and coconut oil

I just finished mixing up another batch of my virgin coconut oil, unrefined shea butter, jojoba oil and aloe vera mixture. I don't heat this just mix it all together it is soft and creamy and stays blended together. I use it on my hair, face and body I love it.

Re: Aloe vera and coconut oil

i haven't tried any butter recipes yet..this one looks like a awesome first one to try out thanks i will post with the results as soon as i can.i'm trying to think of ways to get rid of these terrifying white specks that decided to appear after my SMT.i've never had these before

now-it is a bit rich so i have a question-what is your method of washing when you use it as a heavy oiling?i'm not too keen on CO but if it works great with the aloe butter i'll be more than willing to give it a go

and you rock teela :
