I get them occasionally in my groin area and on my buttocks, and this past month it has been really bad. I had several at a time! Usually I get like one in six months or something like that. I went to see my doctor, and she prescribed an oral antibiotic and an antibiotic ointment, which cleared up the condition pretty fast. Now I got another ointment to help the skin mend. The doctor said that there's nothing to be done about those thingies, and that some people are just prone to getting them. But I want to do something to prevent them from coming back!!! (I had such a hard time sitting, it's not funny, plus they look ugly!) Do you think changing my diet could help? I'm also losing weight, do you think that's going to help? I have worn wear too tight pants lately... Has anyone fought this successfully? | | | March 15th, 2006, 07:43 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Paradise Garage Age: 56 Posts: 6,570 Length: 17"/hip/bc Type: 1b/1c/M/iii | | Re: Furuncles/boils - how can I make sure they stay away? | | My ex husband used to get these, alot! And he was not overweight, but severely lacking in iron. One time, he had one on his chest area, near his ribs, and had to have emergency surgery in the ER. He would get them in strange places, on his earlobe, forearm, etc. Finally, someone told him to start eating raisins on a daily basis, and to my knowledge, he has never had another one. HTH ETA: Also, wear cotton clothing, especially underwear and don't wear your clothes two days in a row. Plus, my ex started using Phisohex to bathe with. I had a big funucle in my armpit in October, and I had a nasty sinus infection. I got another when I had a bladder infection. My former sister-in-law got massive ones on her legs for years only to find out she was diabetic. I'd see a doc to see if he can determine a cause. Tea tree oil works better than anything else on me. In fact, I did have an infection going on. I had some nasty bug when the whole furuncle thing started, then I had my period, then, right after that, I got a cold. All of this has obviously contributed to low immunity somehow... Considering this, maybe a change of diet is really a good idea. I think I'm also going to try Schuessler salts... PS: Cuddledumplin, I think you're so pretty!!! | | | March 15th, 2006, 09:21 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Northern Virginia Age: 45 Posts: 1,155 Length: 25.5/30/35ish Type: 3a/M/C/ii | | Re: Furuncles/boils - how can I make sure they stay away? | | I remember reading another thread on this or something quite like it, but I have no idea where/how/what words to use to search or it. Perhaps someone who posted in that old thread will come along. __________________ | | | March 15th, 2006, 09:55 PM | #7 | | Moderator Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Portland, OR, USA Age: 35 Posts: 5,515 Length: 52/64.5/66 Type: 2a/2b/C/iii | | Re: Furuncles/boils - how can I make sure they stay away? | | Quote: | Originally Posted by Josephine I remember reading another thread on this or something quite like it, but I have no idea where/how/what words to use to search or it. Wow, that thread is packed with great information! And hey - ya ya acne - now that's too funny. Makes the whole thing seem less annoying somehow. Although it IS annoying. I started taking two kinds of Schuessler salt today: Silicea for the skin (D 12) and calium phosphoricum (D 6) for stress relief. I'll post my results in the ya ya acne thread! Edited to add: Oh, and the silicea is supposed to be extremely good for both skin and HAIR! I'll let you know if I see any difference. The stuff is also CHEAP! I payed only six euros per bottle, and each bottle contains 200 tablets. The doses are 2-2-2 and 4-4-0. Most vitamins are way more expensive and didn't do a thing for me, neither hair- nor skinwise.
