1b's--what works for you?

Considering the difficult time I'm having with my hair right now, I'm thinking that a change in routine is in order. Currently, I'm using AO Island Butter/Spice s & c and GPB about once a week. I wash every day or every other day. Jojoba is on a "when I need it" schedule. When I sleep, I put my hair in a braid or bun.

If you would please share what you've had success with (what hasn't worked would be great, too!), I'd be most grateful. And if you're not a 1b but still have ideas, please, please, please share them, too!

Hi Almare,

I am a 1b. GPB does not work with my hair neither does any kind of direct oiling. I use Graham Webb's moisturizing shampoo and Island Spice conditioner and that is working. I also use the AO mandarin orange Jelly for hold. I mist my hair with a mix of water Island Spice and Jojoba Oils and then braid for the night.

I read you other post. I had a similar problem today, the fig. 8 that I can do without thinking kept coming undone and finally in the middle of the day I did a plain bun instead.

BTW, I shampoo all my hair 3 days a week and wet my hair before putting it up on the other days.

I hope this helps a little.

Oh and also I clarify once week with Wiseways Herbals Roots.

I'm new but I'll tell you what works for me!

My hair hates buildup! I change shampoos every few weeks and use absolutely no styling products (it took my hair a while to get over the flat thing, then it seemed to jump for joy, when it realized that I was serious about no goop).

I do the CW method every other day and only condition once a week. I spray my ends on my non-wash days with water with a few drops of olive oil mixed in.

Like I said, I'm a newbie and I have LOTS to learn, but since I'm a 1b I thought I'd respond. Hope your hair starts behaving and treating you with the respect you deserve!

Wanna know what works for my hair the best? Doing nothing. Two days after I wash and condition is my absolute favourite hair day. I wake up run my hands through it, and leave it alone. On this day I really like my hair. strange hey! Maybe its the natural oils kicking in. So thats whats best for mine (1b) the worst is too much hair serum, I always use the same small amount yet some days it just feels so coated and just crappy. Lately I've found brushing in the morning with BBB a great treat, makes hair softer, smooth and shiny. I think I read that somewhere on web about brushing in the morning.... Mine also likes water & oil spritz then brushed and put into a low bun, when I take it down a couple hours later, nice & soft, but then I wanna play with it.

....

I havenīt setteled down a routine yet.....I know I should have one after growing my hair out since about 2 1/2 years now...
I just like to try something new !
But what I normally do is :
CWC once a week ( Urtekram products ), do a scalpwash when needed , (I like my hair most when I do this...donīt now why ! ), mist it when needed , put it up or in braids 99% of the time , brush with a bb daily , oil my ends with jojoba when needed....hair treatment about once a week...
Maybe Iīm not the one to help you....

I'm a CO washer and I love it! I only use shampoo once a week or once every other week, depending on how it feels. I think this method has brought out some of the natural wave in my hair. The key for me is to keep everything very light. I use the white rain that most people use for CO washing, and I don't need another conditioner afterwards. Too much just weighs my hair down. My hair hates proteins and is very picky about oils. No hairspray, no leave-ins, nothing else. I only brush once in the morning with a bbb or comb.

I wash nearly every night ( I live in a hot climate), condition every time I wash, brush twice a day with a soft BBB. The thing that has made the most difference for me is that I don't comb out after I wash. I put a turbie twist on my head and go to sleep. In the morning my hair is dry and soft, but no tangles. It has also cut down the breakage unbelievably.

I do take GNC Ultrahair, evening primrose and flax oil. I tried monoi oil, and jojoba oil, and almond oil - but my ends just got crunchy and split. I don't blow dry but about once a year.

Let's see, I use Kenra shampoo's about
every third day. I always condition, usually
with Kenra's IET, Aussie 3 Min Miracle, Joico
K-Pak Reconstructor, rinse, then follow with
Mega Moisture. I also apply Nioxin's Scalp
Therapy to my scalp when conditioning.

I have been using a squirt of Kenra's IET,
distilled water and Nioxin's Bliss mixed together
well as a leave-in. My hair weighs down easily,
and this is light enough not to do that. I also use
Nioxin's Treatment to stimulate my scalp at night.

I only comb, never brush, and wet bun every
day and night.

So far so good!
