I have seen a few around here and it seems to be an easier why to hold long hair, but also seems that to just fold your hair in the snood for an extended period of time would lead to major tangles. Am I wrong? I really like the style, but seems that the hair would be very messy when removed from it. Thoughts? It doesn't seem to cause any more tangles than anything else. If it seemed to be a problem, though, you could always secure your hair in the roll with pins to keep it more in place. __________________ My journal Routine: coconut oil (prewash), shikakai/amla tea (wash), hibiscus/elderflower/honey tea (condition), aloe vera gel and jojoba oil (leave-in), shea butter once hair dries | | | November 18th, 2005, 02:48 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Colorado Age: 48 Posts: 537 Type: 2c/F/M/ii | here's my girl dog in a snood hee hee | | | November 18th, 2005, 02:49 PM | #4 | | Moderator Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: East Coast of the USA Posts: 5,101 | I got rather bad tangles at the nape but not anywhere else... but I am new at the snood thing, so hopefully I will find a way to avoid those tangles in the future. | | | November 18th, 2005, 03:49 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: NY Age: 37 Posts: 1,628 Length: 18"/23.25/24" Type: 3a/M/ii/iii | i've never had that problem, but I'm not especially tangle-prone, either. In fact, I like to use my snood as protection when i go out to garden or walk in the woods or anything where bits of leaves and such might get caught in my hair. __________________ --CC In the words of my students: How many independent clauses can you count? When I wear it this way, my hair dries nicely with no tangles and more shine. Probably because I'm not tossing and turning with my unprotected hair. | | | November 18th, 2005, 05:00 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Southern California Age: 55 Posts: 392 Length: bsl/waist/class Type: 2c/M/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Koala Kim I sometimes use my snood after I've washed my hair. What kind do you have that you use for a sleep cap? I have been thinking this would be a great idea. | | | November 18th, 2005, 05:21 PM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2005 Age: 50 Posts: 1,920 Length: 23.5/24.5/30 Type: 1c/2a/F/ii | I've not noticed any more tangles when wearing a snood; in fact, I think I experience fewer tangles than if I were to wear my hair down. When I put one on, I will twist my hair a bit as if I were putting it in a bun, so I can get the snood on while my hair is contained at one point. Once the snood is on, I gently bounce it at the nape to coax the twisted hair to unroll & fill out the snood a bit. I find it contains the hair without exerting pressure on my scalp like updos sometimes do. KK mentioned a snood being kind of like a sleep cap. I find my hair behaves pretty much the same in both. __________________ Visit my journal! I just use a regular snood. I gather the ends of the snood up and plop that on top of my head. Hold it all in place with a couple of Amish pins. Yes, I do sleep this way. No, I don't sleep this way on Hubbs' off days. | | | November 19th, 2005, 05:12 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Ohio Age: 52 Posts: 132 Type: 2a/2b/M/iii | Oh, just to add, I found a web site that has some great snoods, with many stylels and pictures. Here it is for those interested: http://www.snoods.com. My hair does tend to tangle towards the ends though, so maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea ... hmmm ... | | | November 19th, 2005, 08:38 AM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Buffalo, NY Age: 40 Posts: 6,307 Length: 32/39/? Type: 2c/M/iii | I find I get fewer tangles with my hair in a snood than when it is loose - the snood keeps everything contained and in order, rather than moving and twisting around itself. Part of the trick is knowing how to put the snood on, particularly if your hair is longer than the snood. You can't just shove the hair in randomly, instead I loosly coil the length and arrange the coil in the snood. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
