I finally decide that I am going to splurge a little and but a pair. I cannot find ones that fit me! Apparently I have fatter calves than the rest of the population . Ok, I'm a little overweight, about 30 lbs but I keep hearing that a size twelve is the average size of women in America. So how come I can't find boots that fit? I tried on four different pairs at Kohls today and three of them I couldn't zip. The one pair that I could zip were too tight. Even if it felt Ok, (which it didn't) they looked awful . Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to finally buy some? | | | October 10th, 2005, 03:06 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Paradise Garage Age: 56 Posts: 6,570 Length: 17"/hip/bc Type: 1b/1c/M/iii | There was a similar post about this yesterday, i believe...seems like they found the boots they were looking for at www.silhouettes.com | | | October 10th, 2005, 04:09 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2005 Age: 32 Posts: 316 Length: .125"/10"/?? Type: 4b/C/ii/iii | Shoes.com is a pretty cool site. I had trouble finding knee-high boots when I first started to like them. They're cheaper than the zip-up kind, but the pull-up kind will stretch and stick to your leg. __________________ (I trim as needed) | | | October 10th, 2005, 04:29 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Washington State Age: 51 Posts: 685 Length: 1/4/35/40 Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | Ok I also have full calves and there are awesome boots, at many plus sized clothing sites...try these three: www.roamans.com www.lanebryantcatalog.com www.jessicalondon.com I love tall boots and actually found a really cute pair of black leather ones, that were wide calf at a thrift store. I love boots and own several pair, with more on my Wish List Always Also, if you find a pair of boots you just HAVE to have, and they are a bit too narrow in the shaft, you can have a good shoe repair shop, put a small (or larger if needed) elastic gore in the back seam, or side seam, whichever works and looks best. I have had this done many times and it is not to expensive. Hope this helps a fellow boot lover! Last edited by RhainyC : October 10th, 2005 at 04:31 PM. So i have settled for just getting ones that hit right below where my calves start to get bigger. Good luck finding a pair. | | | October 10th, 2005, 04:50 PM | #6 | | Moderator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Central Tejas Age: 49 Posts: 12,727 Type: 2b/2c/F/i | I've been having internet connection problems tonight. I tried posting earlier, but wasn't able to. It seems Rhainy has given a more complete listing of large shanked boots that I gathered. Here is my one offering. I know there are others, but I can't find them right now; http://www.avenue.com/webapp/wcs/sto...Id=40000000326 Hope that helps. And I"m going to go look at what Rhainy posted and see if I can find some boots for me! | | | October 10th, 2005, 05:03 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Chicago-ish ;) Age: 31 Posts: 1,686 Length: Chin/BSL/waist Type: 2a/F/M/ii | Thank you all for your replies and the links. I appreciate it. I'm going to check a couple more stores tomorrowm before ordering online. I guess I am a little leary of ordering shoes without trying them on. I felt like such an oaf. It's bad enough having clothes fit too small but boots! Oh, well. Thanks again! | | | October 10th, 2005, 08:57 PM | #8 | | Moderator Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Portland, OR, USA Age: 35 Posts: 5,515 Length: 52/64.5/66 Type: 2a/2b/C/iii | Chiming in late here to suggest www.zappos.com, I've had good results with them. And I have very large muscular calves for my size/weight. Manlegs to go with the Manfeet. Ahem. | | | October 10th, 2005, 09:08 PM | #9 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Over the river and through the woods Posts: 291 Type: 2c/3a/F/i/ii | Ditto what Dianyla said. My entire family has large and wide calves. We all hve managed to find boots and shoes to fit. For example: I wear a size 12 EEEE. Zappos fits the bill. Comfortable and the calves fit loosley and I have larger legs being 6'tall. Thank God for Zappos. The day you order they ship. I have ordered my shoes on a Thrusday and recieved them by Friday noon. And the shipping is free. " Free FED EX?" YUP. Right to your door. No, I don't work for Zappos. Just a great shoe/boot source for the entire family. Eventually I've settled on the fact I'm never going to get good knee-highs and now I wear either calf or ancle boots. | | | October 11th, 2005, 08:45 PM | #11 | | Moderator Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Portland, OR, USA Age: 35 Posts: 5,515 Length: 52/64.5/66 Type: 2a/2b/C/iii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Pegasus Marsters I have the opposite... my calves are too thin and they slip down. Would look especially cute if the legwarmers were a fun color and just the top was peeking over the brim of the boots... | | | October 11th, 2005, 08:52 PM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Upendi Age: 28 Posts: 1,748 Length: 15"/31.5"/45" Type: 1c/2a/M/i | I got mine at Hot Topic. I have big, wide feet and large calves so I was pleasantly surprised that they fit well! The boots have a zipper down the side and laces up the front so you can adjust them to fit larger legs but you don't have to stop and do up 20+ eyelets every time you put on your boots. I love them! You could also check Hot Topic's plus-sizes sister store, Torrid. HTH, and good luck!
