hot rollers vs curling iron

Every now and then I sorta crave large loose waves/curls. I was thinking of buying myself some Aveeda Be Curly and a Large Curling Iron to attempt to every now and then get that messy look....
Is there another way to get really really large curls.

Re: hot rollers vs curling iron

I put my hair up on top of my head with a loose scrunchie, as close to my bangs as i can get it. I don't do this with wet hair, mind you...about 3/4 dry, put a little clear aloe mixed with a couple of drops of jojoba on the length and ends and then roll on the largest of the pink sponge rollers. This was the result:

I went to bed and slept on them, didn't even know they (the curlers) were there. I put a plastic hair bag on top of my head and they stayed in place all night.

Gorgeous! I MUST try that! I've been looking for ways to get curls without using heat. Thanks for sharing!

Is there another way to get really really large curls.

Be curly is good for encouraging wave and discouraging frizz. I use it either as a leave in to wet hair and drying naturally, or conjuction with a difuser. Its not stiff like foam, so I'm not sure that it will do much to help with thermal styling.

If you have any kind of curling iron you can try wrapping the hair around the iron(on the outside of the clamp), holding the end in your fingertips (as opposed to clamping up the ends like people usually do with a curling iron).

If you are thinking of those wavy styles that we see in pictures a lot right now, it is my understanding that most of those are blown out with a round brush and then hot rollered. (Quite high maintenence!)

Just a few thoughts there...

Re: hot rollers vs curling iron

I'm a steam roller junkie. Caruso type. I think my current set is Sassoon. I do the top pigtail with scrunchie and curl down. That way I only have curlers on the top of my head and not sweating from a canopy of steam.

Re: hot rollers vs curling iron

I agree...Carusos are great! Wrap Snap and Go rollers would be another options and they are easy to sleep in.
