I was wondering if anyone who has been using honey in a deep conditioner has noticed any changes in their hair color? I have dark brown hair, and have noticed some red highlights since using honey. I suppose it could be something else I'm using, but I have a hunch it's the honey. | | | October 1st, 2005, 10:31 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2005 Age: 42 Posts: 118 Type: 2b/2c/M/ii | My hair gets a little lighter when I use honey alot too. I think I've seen people mention this on nc.com as well. | | | October 1st, 2005, 10:50 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Chicago-ish ;) Age: 31 Posts: 1,686 Length: Chin/BSL/waist Type: 2a/F/M/ii | How do you use honey as a deep conditioner? Do you mix something up yourself? I've been wanting to get a deep conditioner but I haven's made a decision about what type to get. | | | October 1st, 2005, 12:17 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Upendi Age: 28 Posts: 1,748 Length: 15"/31.5"/45" Type: 1c/2a/M/i | Are you using ACV? I get reddish highlights when I rinse with that. I have only used honey one time, and it gave me such a bad case of the frizzies I can't say I bothered to notice whether I had newfound highlights or not! ETA: Shaina, one way many people here rave about to use honey is Snowy's Moisture Treatment, but the way I tried it was just mixing one part honey to one part condish, and then using it like regular condish (apply to wet hair, leave on a moment, rinse well). The added kick of the heat and aloe make SMT an absolute divine conditioning treatment (I'm going to try it soon minus the honey) Last edited by rawtoast : October 1st, 2005 at 12:20 PM. | | | October 1st, 2005, 12:24 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: California Age: 26 Posts: 2,010 Length: 13''/TB/knees Type: 2a/2b/F/ii | I put a good amount of honey in my HG conditioner and not only does it smell insanely good but it makes my hair so soft and shiny. I haven't been doing it long enough to notice a color change though. I can understand ACV giving some highlights though. | | | October 1st, 2005, 12:25 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: BFE Posts: 7,970 Length: 18"?/36"/40" Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | Oh please don't let me find out honey gives red hi lights! I use honey in my SDMT. I know ACV can give me reddish hi lights so that's why I use white vinegar. | | | October 1st, 2005, 12:29 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jun 2005 Age: 35 Posts: 129 Length: 29"/34"/35" Type: 1a/1b/M/ii | I've been using honey combined with my regular conditioner for awhile now but I haven't noticed any reddish highlights. I too have dark brown hair, but in certain lights my hair has always had a little bit of red to it, so perhaps that's why I haven't noticed the honey doing anything to the color. I've only done an ACV rinse once, but didn't find it worth while so can't comment on that. | | | October 2nd, 2005, 09:05 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Admirer Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: California Age: 29 Posts: 18 Type: 1b/M/i | Shana: I've been making a mixture of olive oil, sweet almond oil, conditioner, honey, and aloe vera. I use it about once a week on dry hair for about an hour, then rinse with water. So far, it seems to be the best combination for my dry hair, although I'm still experimenting. I haven't done an ACV rinse yet, although I have heard that it can give red highlights. I'm wondering if maybe the honey itself isn't giving highlights, but just making my hair shinier and showing red highlights that were already there?? Hmmm. | | | October 2nd, 2005, 09:26 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: South East USA Age: 29 Posts: 864 Length: 10/33/40 Type: 2c/F/ii | It's all making sense to me now! ACV = Redness. I was wondering why the red highlights that I got 3 years ago had decided to resurface! I can rest easy now. Thank you LHC. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
