Honey = Highlights?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone who has been using honey in a deep conditioner has noticed any changes in their hair color?

I have dark brown hair, and have noticed some red highlights since using honey. I suppose it could be something else I'm using, but I have a hunch it's the honey.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

My hair gets a little lighter when I use honey alot too. I think I've seen people mention this on nc.com as well.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

How do you use honey as a deep conditioner? Do you mix something up yourself? I've been wanting to get a deep conditioner but I haven's made a decision about what type to get.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

Are you using ACV? I get reddish highlights when I rinse with that. I have only used honey one time, and it gave me such a bad case of the frizzies I can't say I bothered to notice whether I had newfound highlights or not!

ETA: Shaina, one way many people here rave about to use honey is Snowy's Moisture Treatment, but the way I tried it was just mixing one part honey to one part condish, and then using it like regular condish (apply to wet hair, leave on a moment, rinse well). The added kick of the heat and aloe make SMT an absolute divine conditioning treatment (I'm going to try it soon minus the honey)

Re: Honey = Highlights?

I put a good amount of honey in my HG conditioner and not only does it smell insanely good but it makes my hair so soft and shiny. I haven't been doing it long enough to notice a color change though. I can understand ACV giving some highlights though.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

Oh please don't let me find out honey gives red hi lights! I use honey in my SDMT. I know ACV can give me reddish hi lights so that's why I use white vinegar.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

I've been using honey combined with my regular conditioner for awhile now but I haven't noticed any reddish highlights. I too have dark brown hair, but in certain lights my hair has always had a little bit of red to it, so perhaps that's why I haven't noticed the honey doing anything to the color. I've only done an ACV rinse once, but didn't find it worth while so can't comment on that.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

Shana: I've been making a mixture of olive oil, sweet almond oil, conditioner, honey, and aloe vera. I use it about once a week on dry hair for about an hour, then rinse with water. So far, it seems to be the best combination for my dry hair, although I'm still experimenting.

I haven't done an ACV rinse yet, although I have heard that it can give red highlights.

I'm wondering if maybe the honey itself isn't giving highlights, but just making my hair shinier and showing red highlights that were already there??
Hmmm.

Re: Honey = Highlights?

It's all making sense to me now! ACV = Redness. I was wondering why the red highlights that I got 3 years ago had decided to resurface! I can rest easy now. Thank you LHC.
