California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | My hair has been about waist length for the past few years and I'm happy with it's quality in general, but I would like to see if some new products or techniques could improve my hairs' overall health. I have been reading through THLC's pages and pages of advice this past week and I am now convinced that I need to change my hair care regimen. My current routine is wash and condition every other day with Pantene Smooth and Sleek. I have been using this product for years and it seems to be the only product that makes it possible for me to comb through my fine hair with out ripping it. I now know that this is due to the cones in this product and that while it is easy to comb through my hair, I may actually be doing more damage by drying out the ends. So my new plan is to get some cone free shampoo and conditioner (maybe Suave) and try it out for a while. I'm also interested in trying CO to see the results. It's hard to believe that conditioner alone can clean my hair, but I'll give it a try. I'm also interested in checking out ways to clarify hair or get rid of build-up (baking powder?) and also maybe trying out an apple cider vinegar rinse. Oh yeah, I'd like to try Jojoba oil too. So many new things to try! It seems overwhelming right now, but as one poster said, I shouldn't try too many new things at once. I'll take it one step at a time. I'm glad to have found THLC and I'm looking forward to seeing the quality and health of my hair improve soon. My hair is still wet, but I was able to comb through it with no problems of tangling. I was afraid it wouldn't be slippery enough like it is when I use Pantene. It's not dry yet, so I can't say definitively how I'll like this method, but so far so good! California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | My hair felt so soft and silky all day yesterday after my first CO wash. I think I may keep this up for a while! M also trimmed about 1 1/4 inches of hair for me, so that may also have something to do with why my hair felt so healthy. I love it when the ends are all even. I had asked M to cut off about 3/4 to 1 inch, but he cut it a bit crooked, so had to cut off more. I also tried the Embellished rose bun (rope bun with two side ropes that wrap around the bun) which Kimberlily posted. I liked the way it looked, but it didn't stay up through yoga class. I guess I have to find some better hair pins. | | | May 13th, 2007, 04:41 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | Ok, so my hair started feeling a bit greasy at the roots yesterday afternoon and by evening it was visibly greasy. So I did another CO wash last night before going to bed. I waited about an hour for it to dry some, then I put in sponge rollers so I could have curls today. Last time I tried curls, my hair was too wet and hadn't dried properly when I went to take out the rollers. But this morning, the curls were perfect! Nice and boingy! I just sprayed them a little with Suave spray get and they looked great. It's the end of the day now, and my hair is still pretty curly. I'm really liking being on THLC and I'm finding new stuff to read every day! | | | May 13th, 2007, 05:27 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | Yay, my avatar is up now! That's so awesome! Thank you THLC moderators and administrators. So today my hair had some left over curl from yesterday, so I just pulled it back into a loose pony tail. It is now a giant rat's nest back there, though! All tangled and messy. I'll just leave it till tomorrow morning when I wash my hair (CO!) again. I'm loving THLC and all the great ideas I've been getting. I did a rope braid for the first time last week and today I noticed one of my students was wearing a rope braid too. Maybe I gave her the idea? In any case, it was quite cute. | | | May 15th, 2007, 06:35 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | Did another CO wash this morning. It took forever to comb the knots out of my hair, though. I ended up just taking a brush to it, probably not the best idea. Looking forward to my friends' wedding this Friday, should be fun. Still trying to decide how to do my hair. I guess I'll browse around here for a while looking for some good ideas. | | | May 16th, 2007, 05:47 PM | #8 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. It was fairly easy to do, I just pinned the braids and sprayed the whole thing. The braids were coming unpinned by the end of the day, though. Doing another CO wash right now, I'm going to leave it on for 30 minutes or so. I'm loving CO! | | | May 16th, 2007, 06:30 PM | #9 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | Ok, it's time to go wash out my hair (it's been almost an hour!) but I just wanted to post this link for the list of updos. I found it the other day and then couldn't seem to find it today. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ight=list+updo I'm looking forward to trying out a lot of these styles! | | | May 20th, 2007, 04:45 PM | #10 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | So it's been a few days... we went to my friends' wedding and had a fun time. It was fun to get all dolled up and see some old friends from college. Then we spent the weekend at a great hotel in SF. It was so nice to get away and have a few days to relax together. For the wedding, I curled my hair in sponge rollers at night and then wore half of it up in a sort-of bun. I twisted it once or twice, and then left the rest of the curls spilling down my back. I thought it looked pretty, but I think I did the curls a bit too tight. Some stayed curly and others went flat. Oh well. DH told me he liked the rope braid I wore yesterday, very sweet. I like that look too, it makes my hair look healthy and neat. Still doing CO washes. It's been over a week now and I'm liking it, but I need to get some more conditioner. I use a lot! My roots start to feel greasy the next day, but I'm getting used to it. I don't think it asctually looks greasy, it just feels greasier than I'm used too. I guess that's because I was stripping all the oil out with shampoo before. | | | May 21st, 2007, 06:41 PM | #11 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. California Age: 36 Posts: 38 Length: ?/36/36 Type: 1b/F/ii | Did another CO this morning, my hair is feeling great. DH and I went to Target last night and I stocked up on some more Suave conditioners for my CO washes. I used Strawberry this morning, smells yummy! I bought some Jojoba oil from Trader Joe's tonight, $7 for a medium sized bottle. I'm going to read on here tonight for the best way to use oil in my hair. I don't want to end up looking all greasy! TJ's also has some organic conditioner ($3) and aloe ($2.50 or so) that I want to try soon to make Snowy's Moisture Treatment. I decided to just go ahead and try the Jojoba oil before going to bed last night. I rubbed a few drops in the length and then brushed it through. When I woke up this morning, it didn't seem any different, but it was very soft. I ore my hair up in a figure 8 bun with the hair sticks mom gave me for my b-day. Very cute! I'm going ot try a heavier oiling tonight before I go to bed and then wash it out in the morning. I guess I'm just concerned about getting my pillowcase all greasy and then that leading to breakouts on my face. Hmmmm..... | | | May 23rd, 2007, 05:56 PM | #14 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N. Then I washed it out this morning with shampoo (Suave Green Apple) and then applied conditioner for about 5 minutes. That was the first shampoo I have used in 2 weeks! My hair was super straight, shiny and silky all day today! | | | May 23rd, 2007, 05:59 PM | #15 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: N.
