If so, were you pleased with the results? Thank you!!! __________________ Rosepetal | | | May 14th, 2003, 04:15 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 338 | I use Rhassoul clay a lot and like it very much. Never tried other clays | | | May 14th, 2003, 04:32 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Fionavar Age: 43 Posts: 2,444 | Hi Rosepetal, I've had success with bentonite and French green clay for shampooing. Haven't tried others yet. I've used kaolin on my face before, and it acted much the same way as the bentonite, French green and fuller's earth, so I imagine it wouldn't be too much different for my hair. Let us know your results if you try it! __________________ | | | May 14th, 2003, 04:37 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,501 | Zoya and Heidi - would you mind posting the method of how you use the clays? Is it just a sort of "extend the time between wash days" sort of thing? Thanks! __________________ Type: 1c F ii | Length: 30 " | Goal: 45 in | taking a break from the boards) | | | May 15th, 2003, 03:19 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 338 | Quote: | Originally Posted by Rachel Is it just a sort of "extend the time between wash days" sort of thing?
| No, for me it is just a regular wash - just sometimes I do it with CO, sometimes I switch to Rhassoul or Shikakai/amla/aretha mix. The Rhassoul I buy comes as rocks, so I take one piece and add a little bit of water to it and let it sit for 3-5 minutes. The clay absorbs water and probably triples its size and becomes a very soft paste. At this point I add some EO and then I distribute it all over my hair (sometimes I need to add more water, if the paste is too thick) and again let it sit there. Then I wet my hair a little and work clay into my scalp, trying to catch the 'clayy' water into some bowl - I repeat this several times. Then I rinse , rinse, rinse. And that's it. | | | May 15th, 2003, 07:52 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: Canada Posts: 3,467 Length: 19.5/26?/?? Thank you!!! | rosepetal, no, i havent used kaolin by itself, but I washed my hair with MM water today and well, its become a habit for me to read the contents while i massage the scalp with conditioner or recently, MM. guess what? MM water has kaolin clay in it. so, guess it should be good for hair. and yes, i tried MM with AO GPB for WC as you suggested. it was pretty good for me, especially i had a very good hair day the next day. usually my no wash days suck! but i breezed through the after wash-day. thanks! __________________ ~Smiles 'All the wonders you seek are within yourself' - Thomas Browne My long hair journal: Dancing with the Wind! | | | May 15th, 2003, 08:01 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: forever in the barn Age: 58 Posts: 629 Length: 3/29/36 Type: 1b/M/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by smiles rosepetal, no, i havent used kaolin by itself, but I washed my hair with MM water today | smiles, what do you mean by MM water? __________________ Pam "Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons, For you are crunchy and taste good with catsup." | | | May 15th, 2003, 08:01 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Fionavar Age: 43 Posts: 2,444 | Rosepetal, I mix a couple of tablespoons of the clay with a dollop (about one tablespoon) of molasses and then mix in a little warm water to give it a consistency that's loose enough to be easy to spread, but thick enough to scoop with my fingers. It is easy enough to apply to dry hair, so I make little parts and get it on the scalp at the top around my face and at the crown. At one point I was using this as my sole cleanser, every other day. At this point, I'm switching off with my Earth Science shampoo/conditioner. I hope to get back to the clay only, as it worked well. I will say that I miss having a slippery conditioner to use afterward. __________________ | | | May 15th, 2003, 10:36 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: Canada Posts: 3,467 Length: 19.5/26?/?? I am happy with my Morrocco Method shampoos, except for the fact that, since they updated the formula, all 4 shampoos now darken my hair a bit. I thought that perhaps using the paler clays as a shampoo would mimic the effects of the MM without the discoloration??? http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/Clays.asp __________________ Rosepetal | | | May 15th, 2003, 11:26 AM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Fionavar Age: 43 Posts: 2,444 | I believe that the fullers earth (multani mitti) and the rhassoul clay are the two that have been used most often in commercial formulas and traditionally by Eastern women for hair cleansing. The other clays, like the bentonite and kaolins are traditionally used for skin, in masks and face lotions and sunscreens. I'm not sure why, but I have read that the bentonite, being so fine, can eventually lead to clogged pores. I used it when it was all I had, but would have preferred to use the multani mitti. It is also a pale color, almost white. What color is the Terressentials? __________________ | | | May 15th, 2003, 11:31 AM | #13 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 396 | Quote: | Originally Posted by zoya_ I use Rhassoul clay a lot and like it very much. I used it a couple of times and after rinsing the clay out my hair feels really clean but after drying it feels kind of stiff and thick (but soft at the same time if that makes any sense - it kind of feels like wool LOL) as if something had built up on my hair (didn't use any conditioner or other to get the pure effect). Also it seems to have a drying effect as my hair gets quite frizzy. What are you'e experiences and how long have you been using it? __________________ xxx B A N S H E E 1c-2aNii; currently just below ears, first goal: shoulder length A Mermaid by J.W.
