Ways to thicken homemade shampoo?

I've just recieved the ingredients to make homemade shampoo, some soapwort and assorted herbs what I'm wondering is is there anything I can use to thicken it up I have some powdered fenugreek could I use that and if so would I just boil it up all together. Many thanks in advance!

Re: Ways to thicken homemade shampoo?

I think Dianyla uses cornstarch to thicken her herbal shampoo, and there may be some herbs with thickening properties as well. (Marshmallow?)

Re: Ways to thicken homemade shampoo?

I used tapioca starch when I cooked up my soapwort shampoo. I bought it at an Asian Market. I used a teaspoon or two, can't remember exactly. I got the idea on another forum where someone used it like this and said it added suds to the shampoo and gave their hair more volume. It's cheap and works great. Just dissolve in cold water, add to your boiling water and it thickens immediately.

Re: Ways to thicken homemade shampoo?

You can use guar gum, it's a thickener and also conditions the hair.

Re: Ways to thicken homemade shampoo?

another option with soapwort is to put the liquid into one of the foaming pump bottles. Works really well!
