Why is this? I frequently see rubber bands being used when I observe people wearing braids. “D” | | | June 23rd, 2005, 11:26 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Nevada, USA Age: 26 Posts: 364 Length: 16/24/30+ Type: 1c/M/ii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | I use rubber bands, and I dont see a problem with them. I use ones that isnt bound with the metal clasp, that can rip hair out like crazy! But, I dont see a problem using them, especially with braids. __________________ Long hair is the best thing a woman can have! | | | June 23rd, 2005, 11:28 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: GVA, BC, Canada Age: 39 Posts: 4,279 Length: 63cm/65/76cm+ Type: 2c/3a/F/ii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | I highly suggest you NEVER use "rubber" bands but only ELASTICS meant for hair. Rubber can damage hair. | | | June 23rd, 2005, 11:28 AM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: May 2005 Location: USA Age: 42 Posts: 1,678 Length: 16 in/19 in/40 in Type: 1a/F/i/ii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | I never use regular rubber bands. I use the ponytail ties made of cloth, but never regular rubber bands, because they grab and pull at my hair when I remove them, even from the ends of braids. I can hear breakage when I pull them off. __________________ "Judge not, lest ye be hit over the head." | | | June 23rd, 2005, 11:29 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Buffalo, NY Age: 40 Posts: 6,307 Length: 32/39/? The "rubber bands" that are actually designed for use in hair (common brands are Goody and Scunci), without metal clasps holding them in the loop shape, and covered with nylon, are okay for hair. So are fabric covered scrunchies. You want to be careful how you remove the rubber band, so you aren't dragging the tight rubber band down the length of your hair, as well. Undo it one twist at a time, so it is loosened before you remove it. | | | June 23rd, 2005, 11:31 AM | #6 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2004 Age: 31 Posts: 513 Length: 17/41.5/50+ Type: 1b/F/M/ii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | I use "no damage" bands for my braids. Like Goddess said, as long as you don't use the ones with metal. I just don't like using bands for pony tails if I can help it. I feel like even the bands without the metal have a potential to damage if you let them get too stretched out or tie them too tightly. __________________ | | | June 23rd, 2005, 03:27 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Minnesota Age: 39 Posts: 775 Length: ??/long/40" Type: 1a/1b/F/M/ii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | Quote: | Originally Posted by Doreen I have seen several remarks made in LHC threads that one should not secure the tassels of a braid with rubber bands. I always use a scrunchie or hair friendly covered elastics if I am going to wear my hair in a ponytail or braids. __________________ AquaViolet The hair is the richest ornament of women. - Martin Luther Please visit my journal My Journal | | | June 23rd, 2005, 05:30 PM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Seaside, Oregon Age: 52 Posts: 3,291 Length: 15/Waist/TB Type: 2b/2c/F/iii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | You don't want to use office rubber bands for your hair as rubber will stick and catch on your hair and rip it out or cut it. You want to use hair elastics without the metal or fabric scrunchies. | | | June 23rd, 2005, 05:49 PM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Deepest South Posts: 1,769 Length: 20/32.75/42.66 Type: 2c/C/ii | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | I use the no-damage, no-joining-piece hair elastics. Actual rubber bands or the metal joined elastics require scissors to get out of my hair. cheryl __________________ "Never is Karma's doorbell. When I do my next braiding job, I will not use rubber bands (the office type). The office supply bands as well as those really chunky ones that come on a bundle of asparagus. Now, for ponytails I would never use a rubber band simply because it's impossible to pull the length of hair through the band several times without dragging and snapping. But braid tassels, absolutely. As long as you deliberately unwind the band without scraping it across the hair, I don't believe these harm the hair. The main reason I switched to the scunci hair hosiery ties is because natural rubber bands tend to degrade and break down when you use oils in your hair. The more I started oiling my ends the more likely it was that a band might suddenly break in the middle of the day and leave me high and dry. | | | June 25th, 2005, 05:24 AM | #13 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2004 Posts: 206 | | Re: Rubber Bands with Braids | | I used to buy the smallest size rubber band available by the pound. I always carefully cut them out of my tassel when I unbraided. My hair was knee-length back then. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
