Viking hairstyles

This article on Viking hairstyles and grooming implements may be of interest to those of us who appreciate historical hairstyles. There are some clever and unusual styles depicted in the article.

(Does anyone want to try to re-create them? )

Re: Viking hairstyles

Thanks for the interesting article Celuriel! It's interesting to see how my ancestors probably wore their hair.

Re: Viking hairstyles

Very interesting article! Thanks for posting.
I loved this quote "Perhaps the most telling comment comes from the pen of English cleric John of Wallingford, prior of St. Fridswides, who complained bitterly that the Viking Age men of the Danelaw combed their hair, took a bath on Saturday, and changed their woolen garments frequently, and that they performed these un-Christian and heathen acts in an attempt to seduce high-born English women"

It amuses me that the old vikings knew that women want clean men and men today still haven't figured that out...
(once a week was very clean during that time, but not quite what we want today)

Re: Viking hairstyles

I've seen that site before but never tried any of the styles.

The easiest one seems to be a simple knot tied with a braid:

Thanks, Larz! It's surprisingly comfortable, too. I think I'll wear my hair this way for the rest of the day.

Guess with the new album out, it's time for a new NIN shirt! This old one is at least 6 years old. It *used* to be black instead of gray...

You're welcome! How does the style do as far as length shrinkage?
I was thinking about trying a variation of this myself, a low pony knotted, then begin the braiding after the knot. If I try this today, I'll definately share the pics.

My braid is at classic length now, and in this knotted style, it reaches to just past waist. Another way to make sure I don't sit on my braid!

Ooh, pics! Yes, you must show us!
