Re: Does protein in shampoo help to strengthen hair?

hmm . . . different ppl here would almost certainly give you different answers on this one. As far as I understand, Protein coats you hair, and does not really make the hair itself stronger, but adds a layer to fill in gaps etc to make it seem stronger -- but it can't undo damage. That said, not all ppl's hair likes protein -- some ppl say that their hair gets dry or crunchy with protein, same as with 'cones or with oils for some. all very hard to know unless you try it yourself. As far as protein being in shampoo rather than conditioner, I'll not pretend to know the answer. This is difficult for me, bc most shampoos contain penetration enhancers, so perhaps putting it in a shampoo would be good, but I believe most ppl here put it in a conditioner and leave it there for a while. I also think different protein molecules are different sizes and have different properties; something with amino acids might work better than wheat protein bc the chains are not as long (?) I'll stop here bc I don't really know what I'm talking about and wait for a more knowledgable source

Re: Does protein in shampoo help to strengthen hair?

Lol, all this hair stuff must seem a bit daunting at first!
Welcome to the boards
In terms of shampoo, i don't use it but its main purpose is to cleanse the hair and scalp. I would imagine the best way for you to go would be just use as gentle a shampoo as you can, then use conditioners and treatments with the conditioning properties you need.
If you have a look at the articles section there are some good guides for starting out.
Good luck with it
