How do you keep them from sliding back on your head? How do you keep your hair out of it while you're tying? | | | February 26th, 2005, 08:34 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Lok Posts: 856 Length: 16/??/long Type: 1c/F/M/ii | Do you wear bandanas? Occassionally, more often in the warmer months when I am outside with the kids. If so, how do you wear them - headband or triangle? Triangle, I wear it to protect the top of my head/hair from the sun when I don't want to wear a hat. How do you keep them from sliding back on your head? Wear it really far forward (just behind my bangs) or use little clips. How do you keep your hair out of it while you're tying? Very carefully (hehe) Most of the time I am already wearing one or 2 braids so my hair doesn't get in the way. I often tie Under the braids. How do you keep your hair out of it while you're tying? | When it's humid out, I practically live in bandanas. I wear them both as a triangle and as a headband. Sometimes I tie the triangles underneath all of my hair, sometime I tie them on top. My massive amount of hair pretty much keeps them from sliding back. I flip my head forward when I tie the bandana underneath. This keeps my hair out of the knot. | | | February 26th, 2005, 09:25 AM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: disco dancing in the closet Age: 30 Posts: 510 Length: 14/33/elbow Type: 2c/F/M/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by getoffmyskittle Do you wear bandanas? I usually wear them in a triangle. I'll fold the bandana into a triangle, then wrap it around my head like a crown, with the two tying ends meeting at my forehead. I'll knot it, then take it off and put it back on correctly. This way I'm not catching any loose strands in the knot. It doesn't slide off because I wear it pretty much at my hairline, with my hair either loose underneath it or in a simple nape braid, which anchors the bandana in the back. I also recently figured out another use for them in reference to hair. I have a friend who works at a bar, and whenever I go see her at work, my hair comes out smelling of smoke. Now, before I go in there, I'll bun my hair at the nape, then wrap the bun in a bandana. It's worked so far. | | | February 26th, 2005, 05:17 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Reno, NV Age: 54 Posts: 1,226 Type: 1c/M/ii | I always wear one tied triangle style under my bicycle helmet. It protects my hair from the helmet interior and it keeps the wind out of my ears. Protects my scalp nicely from the sun in the summer. I tried nearly burning my scalp to death one summer when I went without for a week outside at Roskilde festival. Ouch! If so, how do you wear them - headband or triangle? I’ve done both but mostly the triangle. Sometimes my scarved bun as well How do you keep them from sliding back on your head? Tie it tight How do you keep your hair out of it while you're tying? I usually use bandannas with braids so it’s not a problem, but I’ve tried with loose hair too. Then I do a quick ponytail to keep it out of the knot and make it lie smoothly under the bandanna | | | February 26th, 2005, 11:36 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Under the apple trees Age: 36 Posts: 1,460 Length: 0.2/waist/long Type: 1b/F/ii | I love to use bandanas as bun cover. First I make a very loose bun. Then I fold bandana into a triangle. I fold the corner opposing the long side maybe 4 in or so to underside. I lift the bandana atop my bun so that long side is closest to my head and the folded triangle points down (or would point if it wasn't folded). I the tie the ends under the bun so that the scarf is trapped to form a nice cover. As the ends are still too long, I bring them to the top, tie once again and stuff the remaining ends in. A neat covered bun is ready! This bun style is super comfortable and protecting. If I want a busy lady's deep treatment, I oil my ponytail heavily first, and let oils work for the day under the bun- and nobody can suspect anything! At the evening I wash my hair and it becomes super soft and lovely. I love to wear this kind of buns everywhere except when I want to look very professional. Obviously, I don't have to worry about the scarf sliding anywhere and there's no problems while tying it. I haven't ever worn my bandannas as triangles or headbands. | | | February 27th, 2005, 04:46 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Jan 2005 Age: 23 Posts: 1,500 Type: 2a/2b/C/ii/iii | Thanks for your replies, everyone! But what I really meant by keeping your hair out of the knot is those teeny wispies at the back of your neck. I usually only wear bandanas (headband-style) when the bulk of my hair is already up, but I am continually snagging and pulling out those little wispies. Another thing I have never been able to get the hang of is how to wear a bandana as a triangle without having it stick out the back... | | | February 27th, 2005, 04:55 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Reno, NV Age: 54 Posts: 1,226 Type: 1c/M/ii | I'm going to have to try the bun cover bandana. Great idea Daneille | | | February 27th, 2005, 06:36 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: BFE Posts: 7,970 Length: 18"?/36"/40" Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | I wore them triangle style a lot back in the 60s and 70s. It was about the only way I could go out the second day hair. I would pull the long folded edge down over my greasy roots. My hair would be down in back. I still do this now and then. I think it's a cute look. If the back part of the triangle is sticking out a larger bandana should solve that problem. You also might wash it several times to get rid of the sizing and stiffness. I've never used a bandana as a headband. | | | March 5th, 2005, 04:42 PM | #11 | | Banned Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Posts: 112 | i use both triangle and headband kerchiefs sometimes i have to use bobby pins to secure them behind the ears | | | March 5th, 2005, 04:57 PM | #12 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: USA Age: 42 Posts: 3,531 Length: 0"/4"/?? Type: 3a/3b/M/ii | Do you wear bandanas? Yes, especially when I have 2nd or 3rd day hair. They are great when I have a DT in my hair that I am leaving in overnight also. If so, how do you wear them - headband or triangle? I always wear them in a triangle. How do you keep them from sliding back on your head? I dont know, they just stay in place. When I have 2 braids I tie it under the both braids and I guess the braids are responsible for holding the bandana. How do you keep your hair out of it while you're tying? I do like Meezer and flip my head over or if its in an updo or braids I dont have to do anything. I also tie the bandana underneath and on top of my head. | | | March 5th, 2005, 08:20 PM | #13 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NW Arkansas Age: 43 Posts: 1,200 Length: 24.5/32.75/Long Type: 3c/F/M/iii | Re: bandanas | | I use them both ways-more often as a headband though. When I go to tie the bandana I turn my head upside down or secure it in pony tail, do my knot and then release the pony tail. I have been wanting to try a combination braid that uses a small thin scarf as part of the braid. All my scarves and bandanas are too bulky for this right now. I am on the look out for some smaller ones! | | | March 5th, 2005, 10:28 PM | #14 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 360 Length: SHDL/MBL+/?? Type: 4b/C/iii | I wear them more in the summer. I always wear silk bandanas (from tenderheaded.com) in a triangle but I find I must slip a Good Hair Days pin or two discreetly to keep it from slipping off. __________________ No heat since 7/2003 ~~~~~ Hair type: 4b (some 4a) ~~~~~ (henna/indigo/amla 2007) I have a vegetarian (not vegan) diet.
