Talking Super Super Shiny Hair

Hi everyone!!!

My hair goal at the moment its to get super shiny hair!! I saw a girl a while ago and she had the shiniest hair I've ever seen, it also looked coloured so that left me thinking.. and now I want the same! So do you have any tips? My hair is kinda coarse but fine at some places (hmmm slightly bizarre combo) and it breaks easily.
I usally use coconut oil and leave it in for a few hours before I wash it. It makes the hair look great but not so shiny. I used Philip Kinglsey a while back and he has incredible products but it didn't make my hair very shiny either. What shall i do?? are there any miracle shine secrets? I eat healthy and take b& e vitamins and msm. Could use your tips!!
lots of love!!!

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

This is kinda hard without knowing what you use at the moment, but here are a few ideas:

Apple cider vinegar (ACV)
A sugar scrub
Adding a little Tea Tree oil to your coconut oil
Neutral Henna (or any other kind if you want a diff color)
Some (but not all) here like Coconut Milk
Boar Bristle Brush-ing
Grapefruit juice
Using a shine serum -- I like Redken's Heat Glide

Good Luck and Welcome to the Boards!

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

Hi and thanks for the tips!
I do the bbb and the cold water rinse, and it doesn't do a lot (cries!!!) My shampoo is a natural one with eucalyptus and then I use L'oreal conditioner.
How do I go about with the ACV rinses? Do I put it on my hair before shampooing or afterwards?

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

A quest for shiney hair naturally, IMO, is a good one because it is really a quest for healthy hair. Health = shine, right? Remember, it is possible that the lady you saw used a silicone shine serum to create the illusion of incredible shine. I have used them, and they worked temporarly. They also made my hair dry, and that is just me.

Here are some of the things I swear help me with shine.

Mostly CO washes, only uber-mild moisture shampoo when absolutely needed.
ACV rinses (helps with shine but makes my hair limp and frizzy).
Weekly brown sugar/honey/conditioner scalp scrubs.
Weekly deep treatments with regular conditioner and honey or SMT (Snowy's Moisture Treatment, on the recipe board) treatments or aloe vera gel.
Pre-wash dry oiling with either jojoba (my fave) or EVOO.
Cool water rinses (want to move this to cold water rinses).
Scalp massage working natural oils down through the length.
Using non-drying gels (Volumax gel from Sally's is my current fave).
Herbal rinses (my current fave is Krazy Kitchen Witch rinse, also on the recipe board).

Just my 2 cents.

Talking Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

Yes snowymoon!! you are right! it is a quest! a quest for shine and health!! I'm enjoying it too. Just bought some new shampoo and conditioner (schwarzkopf and sunsilk) well atleast they were kida cheap, it does say on the label it's good for shine, but you know...never trust labels.
SO tonight I'll try the ACV rinse, and I'll throw in some massage and scrub and cold water rinses too! and see what will happen. God that woman...I envy her!! I should've tracked her down and made her answer what her secrets were. You here on the board aren't shabby in that department either. kisses!!!

Thumbs up Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

I am also on the quest for shiny hair (I'll start with that), and then I would like to work on Super shiny!

I appreciate all the suggestions, I've found some new ones to try out. I have trouble with the ACV rinsing and I'm wondering if anyone else has trouble with the ACV oder afterward?? My hair smelled of ACV for days afterward, especially when wet. Thanks again

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

Yes, I was also a bit concerned about the ACV rinsing, can it actually dry out the hair in the long run?

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

Using a little Beauty Without Cruelty Revitalize Leave-in on dripping wet hair makes my hair very shiny.

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

Our hair sounds similar, Adrainasecret. Coarse hair doesn't reflect light so well.

The girl you saw probably used silicone serum or straightening gel and blow dried. Did she have fine hair? Fine, straight hair reflects light better since it is smoother. Maybe she just came from the hairdresser. Styling expertise can make a big difference here.

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

The secret is: HONEY!
I swear, my hair has never been so shiny. I started using honey (I think it was Snowy Moon's idea) and wow, instant shine. What I do is wash as normal, then after rinsing out the conditioner I put a glob on honey on my palms and rub it down the length of my hair, then rinse it a little in hot water.
You can add shine to dry hair by using a boar bristle brush to distribute a small amount of oil (any oil will do.. I've been using sunflower coking oil bought at WalMart recently) through the hair.

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

I vote for Snowy's Moisture Treatment. I just did an SMT the other night, then slept with hair in a segmented ponytail. My hair was super-shiny! I swear, it was almost Pantene-commercial hair. (I wrote about it in my journal, but the picture to prove it wasn't the best quality) So far that, combined with henna, have really boosted my shine, more than anything else I've yet tried.

Re: Super Super Shiny Hair

Well my hair is dry from my "shine quest" wash. After my long bangs dried I tried the honey tip. It worked better than the ACV rinse for me. But alas...it's still not very shiny. Maybe you're right hairstorm, mybe my hairtype doesn't reflect light so much, but I will continue to try. The woman had fine very straight hair.
The beauty without cruely conditioner sounds very good, I read the ingredient list and it sounds wonderful! especially for growth, I'm thinking of buying it and putting some on my scalp to see if it does something. It has both nettle and rosmary in it, both great growth boosters.
