I need lots of "slip" in a conditioner in order to detangle it. Does anyone know which ingredients are the ones that give a conditioner slip? Knowing this would help tremendously when shopping for hair care products. Thanks! __________________ Smooooth Operator My Hair Journal: | | | February 23rd, 2005, 06:46 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Aug 2004 Age: 36 Posts: 3,325 Length: 26/?/40 Type: 2a/2b/F/ii | cones are what do it for me, but not everyone is a fan of cones __________________ | | | February 23rd, 2005, 07:13 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Minnesota Age: 40 Posts: 775 Length: ??/long/40" Type: 1a/1b/F/M/ii | I agree that cones are what will help. I know that's true for my hair. I use Garnier Fructis "Long and Strong" leave in, and my hair is really easy to comb through. __________________ AquaViolet The hair is the richest ornament of women. - Martin Luther Please visit my journal My Journal | | | February 23rd, 2005, 07:35 PM | #4 | | Moderator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: In the closet with Mothra Posts: 6,122 Length: 26"/33.5"/39.5" Type: 2b/F/ii | I found that the following cationic quaternary compounds can provide anti-static qualities as well as slip: polyquaternium 10 behentrimonium chloride behentrimonum methyl sulfate (and) cetearyl alcohol HTH! __________________ The Big Question oil: Japanese camellia shampoo: Earthly Delight leave-in: Shea It Ain't So treatments: cassia; Phytologie Phytomoelle avatar: Una and the Lion ~Briton Rivière | | | February 23rd, 2005, 08:25 PM | #5 | | Administrator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Alaska Age: 35 Posts: 12,683 Length: 2"/62"/65" Type: 2b/2c/F/M/iii | Quote: | Originally Posted by LadyKej Hey everyone! Thanks! | I don't know what ingredients cause the slip, but if you're looking for slip, try some Feria conditioner (you can get it at Sally's). I had to *stop* using it because it had too much slip for my hair. But other people rave about it, so maybe it would work for you, too. __________________ | | | February 23rd, 2005, 08:43 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Near Detroit, Michigan Age: 37 Posts: 3,915 Length: 3/36+/36-40 Type: 2a/2b/F/M/ii | If you don't mind cones I really liked Aussie's "Knot Forgotten" which used to be called Slip You can either use it in the shower like the bottle says or you can try what I did and fill a spray bottle with water and then add a few drops of the "KF" to make your own detangling spray. __________________ This is before and after April 4th, 2007 Trim. Type: 1b/1c/F/i/ii | I second Feria conditioner. I dyed (and fried) my hair with Feria for a couple of years, and if that stuff could make my horribly abused hair slide, it would probably lubricate engine parts. | | | February 24th, 2005, 06:17 AM | #8 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2003 Age: 46 Posts: 3,839 Length: bob/59.5"/termi Type: 1c/2a/C/ii/iii | Loreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture is another one. I only ever seen it at Sally's. __________________ Type: Overall effect:1cCiii (Canopy 1bCiii; Front 3aCii; underneath 2bMiii) Journal Photo journal TBB Blog Tifa face inspired by Elle "...true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. I've been dying my hair with Feria for over a year, but have stopped because of reading poor reviews of it. It does have an awesome conditioner. purplebubba, that's one thing I need a good condish for; I like to create my own detangling spray, and I think a little slip would help flaxen - I will print out your list and take it with me on my next trip to the beauty supply. I'm not sure if my hair likes cones or not (?) I have tried a few serums, but hate the way my hair and hands feel afterward - sticky and coated. I need to do some more experimetation. Thanks for the responses all! __________________ Smooooth Operator My Hair Journal: | | | February 24th, 2005, 08:14 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Oz Posts: 1,903 Type: 1b/1c/C/iii | VO5 advanced conditioners only have Demithicone in, and they are slippies conditioner i've ever treid. My favourite is deep nourishing. I also find oil to be very good. That combined with a good conditioner might work? | | | February 24th, 2005, 10:01 AM | #11 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Pacific Northwest Posts: 2,188 Type: 1a/1b/F/ii | Flaxen named some of my faves. My hair can't handle cones, I get great slip from lots of conditioner and oils. Also great results from Lustrasilk cholestoral as a deep treatment. I'll be curious as to how your hair responds to cones. | | | February 24th, 2005, 10:08 AM | #12 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Southern California Age: 43 Posts: 501 Length: 21/27.5/BS Type: 2a/F/ii | Stearalkonium chloride is found in some more natural products and seems to provide good slip. It is in Giovanni's Smooth as Silk and works great for me. It is also in Nature's Gate conditioners. | | | February 24th, 2005, 05:57 PM | #13 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Maryland Age: 43 Posts: 156 Type: 3b/3c/F/M/ii | Adding oils to my conditioner is something I have yet to try (next hair wash!). Last co wash I tried one of the VO5's and really like it (didn't check the ingredient list though). It made my hair very easy to detangle after trying a shea butter conditioner that made my comb stick in my hair! __________________ Smooooth Operator My Hair Journal: | | | February 24th, 2005, 06:26 PM | #14 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2004 Age: 25 Posts: 573 Length: 43/42/56 Type: 2a/F/ii/iii | Are you doing COs or CWC? If no, experiment and see if they help. Almost EVERYONE prefers it to a normal shampoo-conditioner wash. If yes, then I reccomend NOT using cones in your conditioners. What I do, because my hair goes through cones like water, is to get a really good hair serum which are usually LOADED with cones. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Healing Shine Serum and John Freida's Frizz-Ease hair serum are my favorites. They also both smell WONDERFUL! You use them on your hair when it's soaking wet as you detangle. It also gives it a bit of weight, so it doesn't spring up and tangle again five seconds after you run the comb through it! I only shampoo the length, but it works much better for me to do regular shampoo/conditioner. __________________ | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
