The "MIL Wannabe Women's Club" among mum's friends tends to say "You looked better with short hair; long hair makes you look so skinny" and my aunts tell me the same. We're all Asian so it's a pretty common thing to do... the older women notice these slight changes and comment on them pretty freely. This is the only flak I get about long hair. Sometimes it's bothersome but usually it isn't. I try to wear updos and halfups to draw the hair away from the cheekbones and everything... to look less stringbean-like So basically I'm just wondering if others get "Have you lost weight" comments for your long hair, even if you haven't lost weight.... anecdotes,....etc.. I'm open for anything. TIA and blessings, Anais __________________ Classic length, or thereabouts | | | January 10th, 2005, 05:41 PM | #2 | | Moderator Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Portland, OR, USA Age: 35 Posts: 5,515 Length: 52/64.5/66 Type: 2a/2b/C/iii | | Re: Long hair and stringbean comments | | Um, no. Never. Damn! In fact, I'm betting that the story I've always been told is more familiar around here... being accused of using my long hair to hide my curvy shape. | | | January 10th, 2005, 05:44 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: New Jersey. Sometimes people say, "Did you lose some weight" and I havent lost any, but I am wearing my hair down at the time. Believe me these questions dont happen often. When I was younger I was always teased because I was soooo skinny and could not gain weight. I also wouldnt eat much either. I really do wish I had that problem now! Now I can blame it on my Graves Disease. | | | January 10th, 2005, 07:22 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: Northwest Louisiana Age: 55 Posts: 909 Length: 21/29/37 Type: 1b/F/i | | Re: Long hair and stringbean comments | | Hijack !!!!just wanted to say, Curlybrunette, I love your quote! When I got my hair cut into a pixie, I was APPALLED by how "fat" I looked, even though I was at my thinnest since graduating high school. Now I'm not saying short hair makes people look fat, but long hair definitely seems to make people look thinner, I think. __________________ Time to take a stand: 1b/2b-cCii 12.5/26.75/28 -- let's see if I can last 4 more months 'cuz I'm getting antsy here! | | | January 10th, 2005, 10:42 PM | #7 | | Moderator Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: British Columbia, Canada Age: 36 Posts: 2,128 Length: ?/52/? She is half-chinese (her mother was a very tiny and petite woman) and her father is a very tall, very thin British man. She inherited the tiny figure and features from her mother, but also inherited a bit of height from her father. She is only about 5'6/5'7 but at under a 100 pounds, this girl is one tiny girl! Last semester, she went from waist length to hair just above the shoulders, and to be honest, she looked tiny either way regardless of the length! As for myself, I can't really say as when my hair was shorter, I was a bit heavier (about ten or fifteen pounds) so I have no idea if the length of my hair makes me look thinner. I do think that the longer hair makes me look younger though ! The one time I had short hair I though it made me look huge, but I wasn't. I'm 5' 9", weighted about 130 pounds, back then, and I thought it made me look like a pin head. Oh, well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, eh? I'm still growing it out, so there! (by the way, a good way to "bulk up" a slender figure is to do some weight training. I took it up about a year ago, and while my clothing fits me the same or better, I don't look quite so scrawny. Just a thought.) __________________ THE ONE YEAR HAIR VOW July 8, 2006 - July 8, 2007 Life ain't always beautiful, but it's a beautiful life. | | | January 11th, 2005, 03:39 AM | #10 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Aug 2004 Age: 30 Posts: 421 Length: 24/29/42 Type: 2a/C/iii | | Re: Long hair and stringbean comments | | i think u should wear ur hair the way u like and try (if u can) to ignore other peoples comments...thats the only way i managed to survive the short jokes (i'm about 5 feet and weigh about 44 kgs and i have thick hair that apparently needs to be thinned *rolls my eyes*) thats just my opinion __________________ | | | January 11th, 2005, 05:16 AM | #11 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: BFE Posts: 7,970 Length: 18"?/36"/40" Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | | Re: Long hair and stringbean comments | | I know I FEEL thinner with long hair. I get the comments, your hair makes you look just like a little girl. I'm thin too, from the back people often mistake me for a teenager. My profile pic is about the only fullsize photo that shows this. I need to update this picture because it was take last summer, but it gives you the idea. | | | January 11th, 2005, 06:35 AM | #14 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2003 Age: 46 Posts: 3,839 Length: bob/59.5"/termi Type: 1c/2a/C/ii/iii | | Re: Long hair and stringbean comments | | I've gotten the "younger" comment, but *never* the "thinner" comment! (too bad!) But seriously, are you trying to gain weight? I understand it is just as hard for people to gain as to lose weight... When I was in high school I badly needed to gain weight, but not matter what I could not. Now I'm older and I struggle to lose weight. Just goes to show how things change!
