hair nicknames

have you ever gotten a nickname from friends/family because of your long hair? Because of my Indian background, I have gotten Pocahontas and Princess Jasmine. One really stupid and embarrassing one came from my dad one morning. He saw my hair after I'd slept on it that night, and started saying "good morning, Wild Woman!" Thanks daddy, I love you too !

Re: hair nicknames

I got called Princess Leia once at church for some hairstyle I had done. Now I'm not even sure how I was wearing it, but I know I didn't have a bun on either side of my head. I was nicknamed Snow White in college before I even had long hair.

Re: hair nicknames

Oh yeah, I get this a lot.

95% of the time...
Rapunzel
Lady Godiva

Other miscellaneous names...
Cousin It (especially in junior high)
Barbie (usually from little girls)
Medusa
Princess Leia
Viking Princess or Queen (double-braids)
Lara Croft (usually from computer geek coworkers, especially when I've got it in a single braid and have my all black leather motorcycle jacket and black jeans and boots outfit on)

Re: hair nicknames

I get called Pocahontas by my mom whenever it is in two braids, especially if they're hanging in front of my shoulders. Not just sometimes, but every time. And, a couple of times when I've played with those braided tails or had them in buns I've been called Princess Leia. I've also been called the latter a few other times from random people while wearing regular buns.

Re: hair nicknames

I got called Rapunzel today! I laughed!

Other than that, I haven't had any hairy nick names . . . on the other hand, hubby has always refered to me as "wild woman"! LOL I love the nick name!

Nope, my hair has no nicknames... It's not long enough to be out-of-the-ordinary, I guess. :-P

You know, you really do look like Lara Croft in that picture. No guns though!

Re: hair nicknames

From hubby and friends:

- Pocahontas and Lara Croft - always when wearing single braids.
- The school mistress - when wearing a slicked back bun, especially if it's on top of the head (said in a teasingly, joking way)

Even when I wear my hair in a single braid, no one has ever called me Lara Croft.

When I wear my hair in two braids, though, my Father calls me 'Princess Rosella'. This is the name of the heroine of a computer game that I played as a teenager. Princess Rosella had two long braids that swayed as she walked around the Kingdom on her adventures. When she swam, her braids trailed behind her in the water. She was cute and it always makes me smile when he calls me that.

Re: hair nicknames

When ever my hair is down, I get called Cousin Itt (hair color REALLY helps that too). (pic from addamsfamily.com)

When in braids I get called:
Laura Ingells (img from gilbert-boxleitner.com)

or Pippi Longstocking (img from overstock.com).

Of course I have all the traditional red head referenced nicknames too.

Re: hair nicknames

Yup--Cousin Itt, Rapunzel, Godiva, Princess Leia, Lara Croft, witch, goddess, pencil head (common hairstick for me)...

In high school, a friend would stand behind me and shout "Sassoon!" in a lispy voice as he flipped my hair forward over my head . At a previous job, whenever I wore a braided ponytail (rare these days--too heavy), a Vietnamese co-worker would jokingly suggest that I tie metal weights to the end and swing it around as if I were in a Jackie Chan flick and called me "Shanghai Girl" .

But the nickname I constantly get is "Crystal Gayle".

Re: hair nicknames

I've been called Snow White since I had short hair so I guess that doesn't count.

Re: hair nicknames

I used to get called "horse hair". Kids are mean.

ETA - This wasn't because my hair was long, it's because of it's texture and dryness. I have recently got called Lady Godiva..?! My hair isn't THAT long.

Re: hair nicknames

What a cute thread!

My Dad always calls me Lady LovelyLocks (how many of you remember her?) or Lady Godiva. Even know that my hair is shorter he still insists on calling me those names. It's sweet.
