egg in hair

I love doing this as a protein treatment. It makes my hair really really shiny - despite all the extra fallout there seems to be when rinsing it out.
Anyway, the procedure I use now is to apply it to dry hair, put it in a showercap and wrap it in 2 towels. My question is about how to do this and make less of a mess. I either crack the egg into a cup or today i just broke it into my hands. It always seems to get all over the bathroom counter and I find it impossible to distribute evenly. Also if you drop a little bit of it it quickly goes down the drain.

Re: egg in hair

I'd suggest mixing it with something else to make it more cohesive. Perhaps some honey (good for moisture) or some conditioner, perhaps. I'd mix it up in a cup or bowl and apply it to hair while bending over the tub, probably.

Re: egg in hair

What do you do after that? Shampoo and condition, or one or the other only? I'd like to try this!

That's a good question. Since it's just egg I'd think it would rinse out just fine. However, the only time I've done an egg treatment on my hair there was oil in it as well and that necessitated a shampooing afterward.

Zwan, what do you do? I'm curious to know if just rinsing does the trick or not.

Re: egg in hair

Egg is my favourite too! Nothing gets my hair shiny like eggs! But it IS very messy. I'm going to try to mix it up with some very thick conditioner.

Well after i take off the showercap and things i rinse it and just try to get out all i can from that.. but having my hair up in the showercap and having the egg in it tends to make it a bit tangly so to quickly detangle I work through some white rain extra body conditioner - which is the same kind i've used for CO, just something light and cheap. So I usually go through a few handfuls of this. Then I proceed to shampoo and condition as usual.

oh that's a good idea! i'll try it.

I also have another question about the egg treatment.. for people who do this, how often do you think it's okay to do so? I do it about every 4 weeks just because that's how my hair routine works out. Do you think it'd be okay to do it more often because I really love how shiny it makes my hair.

Re: egg in hair

I've mixed egg with some real mayo some honey and some conditioner. It works well. Just remember not to rinse with hot water as you dont want scrambled egg hair The first time I did it I added banana. Now that was pukingly gross. I had dried bits ofthatdisgusting banana in my hair for days in spite of repeated washings and rinsings. I havent eaten a banana since.
