Feye, question on your new cut

Feye, you're new U- shape really looks good on you. It's so perfect! So perfect in fact, that I have to ask, did you cut it yourself using your self trim method? If you did, you did a great job.

I've tried your self trim directions on myself and LOVE the results. I feel comfortable enough doing it that i've been trimming some each month. I would NOT be comfortable letting someone else cut my hair each month. And I can see just how much is being taken off. My ends don't look nearly as nice as yours do though. Your ends are so perfectly thick. It even looks longer with the U shape.

I saw in your "journal" that you eventually want to be near tailbone. I can visualize that with your picture- it's going to look VERY pretty at that length- your hair already does.

So do tell! Did you trim yourself?

Thank you so much, Valerie!

Yes, I trimmed the U-shape myself. I was initially aiming for a V, but then I trimmed the very tip off to make it look more polished. Here's how I did it: I used the U-shape trimming instructions, but when I brought my hair forward I held my head straight up instead of tilting it back (to get a deeper V). This makes the hair completely even and blunt when worn in front (I like that!), but V-shaped from the back.
And then I tilted my head forward (like in the blunt-cut instructions), made a low ponytail, let the scrunchie slide down to the end of it, brought it forward and trimmed the very tip of the V off.

I don't know how this will look on very straight hair. Since my ends curl a little they often look kind of smooth. But it seems like the shape is good and smooth even when my hair is wet and straight-looking.

I'm thinking about updating my instructions a little. Adding new pics, and maybe making instructions for trimming hair in a V-shape. Just clarify a few things and so.

Glad you like it!! And that it works so well for you too

When it comes to tailbone or not, I'm hoping to achieve it, but I'll settle for anything beyond waist

Hugs

yes, if you get a chance- I would love to see a "revised" version of your directions. I did have a question, now that i think about it, while I was trimming my own hair. i am not sure i can explain it clearly though.

When you bring the hair forward over one shoulder (this is the U shape), do you come it flat and hold the hair nearest your face outwards, or take the hair from the back of you head and angle *that* forward and the front hairs towards the back... (I KNOW that is confusing, but hopefully you'll understand me! LOL!) OR do you just come it all together like you would if you were making 2 low ponytails over your shoulders, and cut it like that without coming it out flat to hold between your fingers. I've tried visualizing what the outcomes would be like by holding the hair these 3 different ways.

i'm sorry, didn't even mean to ask you that question!! I just wanted to compliment your new style.

I would be really interested in an update on the trimming method to include the V!!! I think my hair would look best in that shape considering the wave pattern, but it keeps trying to grow blunt which just looks odd to me on my waves.

Keep us up to date, and of course your hair looks stunning in that new cut!

Oh, I see what you mean. Of course, now that you've explained it I can see that my instructions are confusing. I need to make a new pic, I guess. Or remove step 5 for the U-shape altogether.

You're supposed to comb the hair to one side, and hold your head up straight at the same time. Depending on whether you've done Step 2 with your head tilted back, or looked straight forward (like I did when I trimmed my hair this time), then tilt your head the same way when you do Step 5. This is for making sure that you don't change your part afterwards and realize that when you do, some hair strands are longer than the rest of the hair.

But if you've had an exakt middle part from the beginning, then Step 5 is optional, and not necessary at all.

I need to make new instructions, that's for sure

Hope I explained it better this time. (It was this you were asking about, right?)

Thanks!

I can understand the need for a V too, so this is the first thing I'll add to the page Next month or so, when I trim my hair again.

I'm not sure how I'll be able to make new pics for a blunt cut, because I don't do that on my hair anymore. And if I'd try, I'd lose several inches in the cut (since my hair is a U right now)

But I'll think of something

No but...

I know I didn't explain it very clearly.

It's Step 2 that I am confused with.

I am not sure how you positioned the hair between your fingers. what i was thinking, is how do I grab the hair.. it probably makes a difference. If the hair that grows near the front of my face gets positioned *behind* the hairs out of the back of my head, this would make the front hairs end of a longer length, right?

Hope I am making more sense.

In your picture, it looks like you just combed all the hair over your shoulder straight down without worring about if the hair grows from the front or back of your head.

maybe it doesn't make any difference. You're hair looks great. I really don't know how to explain it!! LOL! I wish we could meet for lunch like everyone's doing and talk "hair". But you just live too far away so you have to put up with my vauge confusing posts! Augh!!!

Yes, lunch, that would be nice!
But I'll try to do my best to explain anyway.

When I do Step 2 I comb the hair several times, actually. Just to make sure that the trim gets right. I wouldn't want to miss any strands, or get it uneven. Therefore it doesn't matter if the front hairs go behind the back hairs, because if I comb and trim my hair several times it will be as even as possible. Just grab the hair at the level of your shoulder, and pull your hand downward until it reaches the ends. And make sure that you hold the hair in a straight, downward line, so that you don't tilt the hair either to the left or to the right.

Hmm... did I do better with explaining this time? The best thing would probably be to make a video. But I'm worried about my face showing.

HTH!

Yep! That's what I was asking. And your answer made perfect sense.

I am sooooo embarrased.... look how I kept spelling "comb"!! LOL! I don't know why I was spelling it "come" but... all I can say is that I was rushing at work. I am such a goof sometimes!

Gosh, now I want to go trim my hair again.

Thanks!!!
