Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

Thank, Snowy. My fine thin 2a hair is so fragile I dont brush
it. This seems like a good way to get oil to my ends.
Definetly will Try!!

Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

Thanks for the guide Snowy! I started doing this several days ago and it has really helped me get the oil from the scalp down the length of the hair. I still have to use conditioner and I also use a post-wash oil/leave-in CO treatment, but I have found that I'm not having to "touch up" on the conditioning between washes anymore. (I have really dry hair naturally.)

Thanks,

Speedy

Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

What a great technique! Thank you Snowy.
I find the dry scalp/hair massage a wonderfully relaxing thing, especially before bed. This will also help a lot with static!

Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

I just have to share this: two days ago I was standing in the kitchen with my mom telling her about Snowy´s massage and how she gained more new growth. My little brother, 9 years old, heard it and said:"I can do it". I had not even been sure if I wanted to start, but he insisted on massaging my head for six minutes (don´t know why it had to be six, though) and detangle the tiny knots after that. Yesterday afternoon he came over and said that it was time for the massage and detangling and if he should measure my new growth I surely had gained because of two days of massage Isn´t he sweet

Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

I use a modified version of Snowy's technique because my hair is a lot curlier than hers and I had trouble with her version. I posted the modifications last night to my personal journal, and this morning Snowy asked me to post them to this thread 'cause she liked them. (blushes)

So here goes, I just copied from my journal:

Massage is so nice: As I mentioned before, I use a modified version of Snowy's hair massage technique. I thought I would try to describe it in a bit of detail so that if someone with fine hair and curls like mine wanted to try the modification, they could.

1.) This is an extra step not explicitly stated in Snowy's regimen: Detangle first. Perhaps this was considered a no-brainer or implied, but just in case, be sure you finger-comb (or just plain comb) your hair thoroughly and get out knots and tangles. This will really help you as a truly curly person when your pushing your fingers around in there. Also, I highly, highly recommend that you only do this method when your hair is DRY. This will prevent damage from your hair being weakened by water.

2.) Now, we start Snowy's steps. First of all, I can't do my hair with my head hung upside down. My curls HATED that. But, I realized that I could still benefit from the massage. So, instead of hanging my head upside down, I sit in a chair with a somewhat low back, and tilt my head back a bit so that my hair hangs by its own weight toward the floor. Basically, the exact opposite of Snowy, but with hair still hanging around.

3.) Then do Step 2 exactly as Snowy describes, and be extra careful not to knot up your hair. Gentler is often better. Go slow if needed so you can feel what you are doing.

4.) This is another big modification for Step 3. I can't do it like Snowy, because it breaks and tangles my fine, curly hairs. So, I use almost a plucking/stroking motion (don't pull out your hairs!!), very gently, and actually following the curls, gently pull the oils from the scalp and down the hairs. Do this with as small a section of hair at a time as is needed (mine is pretty small!) This method takes longer than Snowy's method, but it really works if your hair is as curly as mine. Remember, BE GENTLE. That is the big key on this step! Don't force the curls to do things they don't want to do, gently stroke the oil on them, and they will really like you.

5.) Step Four doesn't need modified, at least for me.

6.) The final step also requires no real modifications for me.

So there it is. I hope this helps someone who can't use Snowy's method as-is. If you are interested in my mods but can't figure it out from what I've written here, PM or e-mail me and I'll try to explain it better.

--------------

So that's it. My offer still stands if anyone wants to mail me about it.

Speedy

Yes! That's just like me - I discovered (by water only washing for three weeks :o) that my 'very little sebum' is in fact 'extremely hard and waxy sebum' that became self evident when I was massaging my scalp with 'water only'. I noticed my fingers became really oily as I worked on my scalp. If only it had occured to me to stroke that oil through my hair and onto the ends, great sounding technique Snowy! I'll give this a proper go and report soon

Thumbs up Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

Considering I just blogged about how wonderful this is, I really should thank you, shouldn't I?

Very cool technique Snowy. I sure hope my hair responds in the growth department the way yours did!

Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

I've done variations on this technique on and off for the last year or so ever since I heard that supermodels swear by head massage as a means of boosting hair growth. Now that I've heard it really works, I'll have to make an effort to add it to my regular routine rather than just doing it every few months...

Re: Snowy's Hair Massage Technique

And yep, I've noticed the faster and stronger my head hair grows, the faster and strong my leg hair grows (even with using one of those lotions that supposedly inhibits/makes it grow finer).[/quote]

I started taking prenatal vitamins (i am too old) bc someone told me it would make my hair grow. i will try the massage. i don't care about leg hair -haven't shaved in 20 yrs so that is no big deal for me. any problem with growing hair when one is post menopausal?
