Eyelash experiment

Yesterday I was watching TV and saw this ad for some sort of “double” mascara, where you first apply a moisturising/protecting layer and then the colour and I thought to myself “So sort of like a leave in-conditioner?”
The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea! I have difficulties to find mascaras since I can’t find a brown that’s light enough to define my lashes without giving me a creepy “clockwork orange”-look
So I took an old, clean mascara brush that I use to comb my eyebrows in place, dipped it in my bottle of leave in-conditioner, scraped it against the edge to not apply too much and gently combed it on my eyelashes. Then I let it dry for a few minutes before I used the brush again to separate the lumps in the hairs.
It looked pretty good! My lashes look more well-defined and I like that they’re “protected”. I will keep this up for a few weeks and see if I see any difference in my lashes. Hey, maybe I will avoid splits and get longer, healthier lashes!

(Okay, so I don’t know where to put this…)

Re: Eyelash experiment

How did the mascara stay on? I'm terribly curious!

Also, have you tried this site? http://www.justforredheads.com/jfrmase.html It is called Just For Redheads, but they have some very light colored mascaras.

Re: Eyelash experiment

be very careful not to hit your eye with the mascara wand. The conditioner would probably be pretty painful on the eyes, and it may not be too sterile.

I was also wondering how safe this would be.

Re: Eyelash experiment

I hate using mascara because it looks to dark on me as well. I just use my med brown eyeliner and brush my lashes with it.

Igor, let us know how this experiment goes.

Teacherbear, Thank you for the website - so cool, stuff for JUST RED HEADS!!!

Re: Eyelash experiment

You're welcome Irishred! I came across that site a few years ago. I've never ordered, but I think those mascaras are great for anyone with light eyelashes, not just redheads. My lashes all but disappear when I don't wear mascara. They are hardly there when I DO wear it . . . I ponder getting a mascara from them, though.

Enjoy the site!

Re: Eyelash experiment

Clear mascara is also another alternative & may be safer. Or using a natural hair gel.

Re: Eyelash experiment

Igor, how is the eyelash experiment coming along? Have you gotten conditioner in your eye? Is it easy to get the right amount of it on the wand?

People with light eyelashes who are considering JFR: I just placed my first order with them Sunday night and got it today with regular first class mail. The speed was impressive and the colors are divine. I didn't get mascara but I'm so happy with what I did get that I just had to throw in my of love for JFR.

Re: Eyelash experiment

The eyelash experiment is going great!
I think I’ve found a new favourite! My lashes are spread out and nicely shaped. Just basically looks great!
I tried to apply mascara on top of it, just to see if it was possible and it worked nicely too. I think it might depend on the type of mascara you’re using. But whoa! Thick, giant lashes! It looked pretty scary!
So far there’s been no trouble with applying it. If you can apply mascara without poking out your eye, this should be something you can do as well I guess if anyone felt insecure about it, one could try just the ends (I wear lenses and have a steady hand, so I had no problems at all)
It’s pretty easy to apply the right amount. It’s thinner than mascara, so you can “spread” it out if you get too much on one area. I just scrape it of on the edge of my bottle a few times before I start applying
It seems to be easier to apply on damp lashes or it clumps a bit. Guess leave in-conditioner aren’t designed to be used on such small parts. But again, it might depend on the leave in-conditioner
But of course, I doubt that the chemists who made my leave in-conditioner ever thought of the possibility of some girl using it on her eye lashes, so of course it wont be a good thing to get in your eyes. But neither is mascara or clear gel- and definitely not hair gel!
I love this though! I’m interested in seeing if I can tell a difference in a few weeks. Could be pretty cool if my lashes got longer and healthier

Okay...I got two lipsticks and a blush. The colors have to be the best makeup colors I've ever worn. I still can't get over it because I'm not even a real redhead. I'm only a reddish-head! I used to think I was much more of a Snow White type than I apparently am because the JFR blush is the most natural looking blush ever to touch my cheeks and it's not even pink. I wrote about them in my hair journal, in post #219. I don't think I mentioned this in that particular journal entry but I have zero natural rosiness in my face. All that "natural" glow is JFR cafe au lait blush.

After a couple of days of using my JFR stuff, the only thing I'm not totally satisfied with is the way the matte lipstick feels. It's a little dry but that's easily corrected with some gloss over the top. The cream lipstick always feels good. The blush is an intense color. I guess I'm used to less pigmented blushes because I initially put on waaaay too much and had to wipe some off. I have to just barely tap my brush to the blush to get the right amount.

I've gotten compliments both days I've worn the JFR lipsticks and blush to work so far. The compliments have been along the lines of, "You look beautiful today," and not, "I like your new lipstick." In the past, I'd get, "I like your new lipstick."

Re: Eyelash experiment

i have used every brand of eyelash growth/enhancer/protector there is.

mavala double lash is working AWESOME for me right now. (be careful, dont pay more than $15 for it- some places will charge $30!)

talika lipocils is also very expensive, but it works, too.

i normally buy eyelash growth by ardell available at sallys for $5. cant beat that.

BUT, if you really want to go cheap and effective, just apply a little castor oil to them each nite and morning. THAT will protect them enough to make them grow long and condition them! my favorite!

in fact, i took an almost empty mascara tube from an old eyelash growth thingy, filled it with olive oil, castor oil and jojoba oil and made my own little tube.

why do i do this? i cant wear eye makeup, mascara will kill me. my contact covered eyes are allergic to everything! i dye my lashes once every 2 months, and the rest of them time i keep them covered in good stuff.
