Plus it was only $3.99 at Sally's Beauty Supply. Hennalucent is like a vegetable dye with henna, protein, and conditioners added (someone correct me if that's wrong). I mixed up the packet with hot water and red wine and let it sit until it was comfortably warm to the touch. I put a mixture of olive & castor oils along the hairline and ears to protect from staining, and applied the henna mixture to my hair with a brush. A few drops spill on the bathroom counter and stain it bright pink. uh oh. I manage to spill some on my skin, and this too stains bright pink. Thank goodness it washed off with soap and water, and the bathroom counter wiped clean with Bon Ami & bleach. I left the Hennalucent on my hair for over an hour, then got in the shower to rinse out. The bathtub and shower walls end up looking like someone was murdered in there, only the 'bloodstains' are bright pink! Bon Ami and bleach to the rescue again. I wasn't happy with the henna results at first, as my hair felt stripped and a bit crunchy from the protein. The colour turned out bright burgundy, one of my favorite shades, so I was pleased with that. My hair feels better now that I've washed it; once with Mastey Traite and twice with conditioner only. I slept with Wella Flash Flood conditioner on my hair last night, and that helped a lot. I don't think I'll use this product again, as I'd rather stick with the pure henna, and all the staining was a pain to clean up. bunniee | | | March 16th, 2003, 01:02 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 2,015 Type: 2b/F/M/ii | Here's a pic of how the colour turned out. bunniee | | | March 16th, 2003, 01:17 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Hamburg, Germany Age: 39 Posts: 3,675 Length: Pixie/32.5"/37" Type: 1c/F/i | That colour looks great, I love it! Do you happen to have an ingredient listing? I'm curious if they really achieve this kind of colour with only natural ingredients or if there are some chemical dyes added. __________________ Cheers, Madeleine, G.F.T.G. *g* Fontaine de Vaucluse, France, October 2004 | | | March 16th, 2003, 02:23 PM | #4 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 2,015 Type: 2b/F/M/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Madeleine That colour looks great, I love it! I wish I could get the same colour results with natural henna, but they tend to be more orangey reds. The Hennalucent packet did not have an ingredient listing, but I found this on folica.com: Henna, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sucrose, Quaternium-19, Hydrolyzed Animal Protein, Guar Hydroxypropyl Trimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearalkonium Chloride, Fragrance, Plant Extracts and other ingredients. http://www.folica.com/haircolor/henn_colcon.htm bunniee | | | March 16th, 2003, 02:26 PM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Reno, NV Age: 54 Posts: 1,226 Type: 1c/M/ii | remove | | | March 16th, 2003, 04:29 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Fionavar Age: 43 Posts: 2,444 | That is a beautiful color, bunniee. And thanks for the product review! I wish I had a good supply of human hair to do more henna testing! I'm getting some great results with the brown hennas, and I'd love to take on the challenge of true burgundy (coffee+grape juice?). I'm going to have to get some human hair wigs! __________________ | | | March 17th, 2003, 12:28 AM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 110 | Oh wow Bunniee! That's a gorgeous color. I'm partial to burgundy myself and it surprises me that you could get that color with a henna product. I'm wondering why in the heck they feel the need to add SLS though Between that and the protein I imagine it has the potential to turn one's hair to straw I'm glad it worked out for you! I think it's a great color! Do you find that it gave the same shine and condition to your hair as the henna did now that it has been a bit since you allpied it? | | | March 17th, 2003, 05:47 AM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 2,015 Type: 2b/F/M/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Amazon I always wondered about that product. It does seem to have more shine. When I hold my hair up to the light it glows almost magenta. This is the closest I can get to purple hair and pass for 'normal' in an office environment. bunniee | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
