getting my GPS suction cup to work

The title says it all.. I got a garmin nuvi, a good car GPS. I love it. My only trouble: despite my best tries, the suction cup still tends to come off at the most inopportune moments, which can be very.. unsettling. I continue to drive, and listen only, but still, that is not good!

Any suggestions on how to make it work better? I tried clean the glass and the suction cup with windex and let it dry completely, I tried saliva ... What in blue blazes am I doing wrong?!

I noticed it happens with temperature changes a lot (between outside and inside - like I get in the car, it is freezing cold, I start and put on the heater - the suction cup jumps off after a few minutes. Same thing in summer ; lot less when the temperature is more reasonible).

As usual, if this isn't the good place or if I overlooked another similar thread, mods feel free to move /merge!

Re: getting my GPS suction cup to work

The reason the cup is not holding is - you got that right - due to the temperature difference between inside and out. As you can't change that, I don't know how you could get the suction cup to work better.

I do know that Garmin used to sell little sand-filled pouches to hold the navi, which then sits (securely) on your dashboard. I don't know the exact make of yours, but that might be a solution.

Re: getting my GPS suction cup to work

This may or may not be a solution depending on how valuable your car is. I also have a Nuvi (love it!!) and after trying multiple things, decided to glue its holder to the dashboard. Superglue is awesome! But then, probably not something you want to do with a brand new car...

Re: getting my GPS suction cup to work

My suction cup doesn't stay either, so I just plunk it into a cup holder and tip it up so it is facing the sky. It stays put and I can still see it.

Re: getting my GPS suction cup to work

I will try the cupholder tip, amz1988 and, if not enough, I have seen those cushions miss Murphy mentions. Thank you to you two, as well as Cindy58 (yep, my GPS really helped me settle in a new place and, as I am moving againg soon...) and Cinnamonhair (I thought of superglue indeed... But I do not like the idea of keeping something forever glued, in case I resell the car in 2 or three years).
