The only time in the last five years I have blow dried my hair has been in hairdressers when they have told me they will not let me leave their salon with wet hair. Hairdressers have also brushed my hair when it was wet back combed it! straightened it filled it with silicon based products When I have repeatedly asked them not to, and pointed out it will damage my hair. This is such a problem that I now travel back to my childhood hairdresser who knows what I like (and is scared of my mother). On one occasion a hairdresser actually made my hair crunchy for my college graduation becaue they wouldn't believe me when I said I needed a dry hair treatment. I had to have my hair up the whole day! Has anyone else has this problem, hairdressers actually damaging your hair | | | January 28th, 2008, 03:17 PM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: South Wales, UK Posts: 273 Type: 1a/F/i | | Re: Dictatorial Hairdressers | | Well yes. I have had my hair combed very roughly and felt it snapping as they did so. I complained about a perm I had once and they treated me horrendously, I am sure their harsh treatment caused me to have a bald spot once! And as for what one hairdresser done! She wanted to add "texture" to my hair because it didn't fall right and what she was actually trying to do was "thin" the hair by sliding a scissors down its length! I was mortified, hey I have very fine hair already and to see all that hair being sliced off nearly gave me a coronary! I couldn't believe it, and she didn't stop immediately either until I shouted at her to stop and everyone was looking at me in the salon. A horrible experience | | | January 28th, 2008, 03:25 PM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: NaNoWriMoville, VA, USA Age: 17 Posts: 1,634 Length: 26~31/39.5/GLDN Type: 1b/F/ii | | Re: Dictatorial Hairdressers | | Where's the "Hairdressers are made of cheese" choice? I haven't had a bad experience with a hairdresser because my mother used to cut my hair, and now it's not cut at all, so yeah... The one time I did go they actually cut less than my dad wished (this was before I was really that hair-conscious) so I was almost content. Or something in that vein. I don't recommend threatening except as a last resort, however, because you really don't want someone who you had to threaten to be handling your hair, after all. | | | January 28th, 2008, 03:33 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Michigan, US Age: 51 Posts: 919 Length: short/29.5"/waist Type: 1c/2a/M/ii | | Re: Dictatorial Hairdressers | | For the most part, my hair guy was very good. I went to him regularly for more than 10 years and usually got loads of compliments. I even felt comfortable telling him to cut it however he wanted to. Except for the period of time when I felt like he was beginning to give me "old lady" cuts. I had to set him straight there and let him know that wasn't going to happen any more, or I wouldn't be back. I've really only had a few trims since I began seriously growing (some were a year apart). Now I think I'm ready for another one, and he's the only one I really feel comfortable with. He didn't even charge me for my last trim, and said "see you next year!" | | | January 28th, 2008, 03:45 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2007 Location: Riverside, CA Age: 33 Posts: 293 Length: wedge/waist/meh? What it was was two layers. The underneath layer was a good inch shorter than the rest. I went back the next day to complain and they fixed it for free. I have not had a problem since as long as I state that I want a blunt, all-one-length cut. __________________ If you trust in yourself... and believe in your dreams... and follow your star... you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy. - Miss Tick, The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett | | | January 28th, 2008, 03:47 PM | #8 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: With the kitty - under the lamp Age: 29 Posts: 526 Length: 1"/waist/long Type: 2a/2b/C/ii/iii | | Re: Dictatorial Hairdressers | | When I was younger, and Saved By the Bell was still on television, I really loved Tiffany Amber Thiesen's hair - so much so that I decided to get it cut like hers. I went to a hairdresser and she shagged my hair. Shagged my hair. With a combo of scissors and razors. It looked no where near what I had asked her to do. I had a female mullet and ended up enduring some very harsh comments from my mother. The woman made me take off my glasses. I couldn't see what she was doing. I cried so hard. It was so horrible. __________________ Lady Qunayir of the Viridian Eyes in the Order of the Long Haired Knights Green | | | January 28th, 2008, 04:05 PM | #9 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Ohio Age: 46 Posts: 29 Length: 15/18/term. I'm am easily bemused. | I've noticed that every community develops its own running gag that shows up as the "other" option in polls, acts as a peace offering after controversial posts, etc. One community I'm in uses pie, and another pokes fun at a male member who found an unknown lady's undergarments in his luggage when he got home from a trip (there were other things, and some of his stuff was missing, the inspectors must have been working on two bags at once). In this community, it seems to be cheese. Back on topic, I've had that happen. There seems to be a problem on the definition of "keep the same cut, just trim the bangs to *this* point and the rest about 1/4 in. (~.6cm)" I've had the bangs left in my face and the rest brought up to the same length, which really sucked when the bangs were about nose and the length below my shoulders. I've had it wind up as a mullet (on a girl???). And yes, there's the ever-popular hairspray, style and blowdry. I don't do that in real life, I don't want it done at the parlor. And it's more annoying when they charge the extra few bucks for the styling (hello, this is an evening appointment, I'm going back home afterwards, I don't need the curls and all).
