Normally, I tromp along with my eyes looking down because I figure if I don't look at anyone, they won't see me striding along like some backwoodsman...you know...if you don't look at anyone, then you are invisible. LOL! Well anyway, yesterday I decided, "what the heck" and started really looking around at the people. What did my wandering eyes befall? I'd say about 8 out of 10 people had hair below their shoulders! And I actually saw a couple with waist length. Amazing! It seems as if a lot of people are letting their hair grow longer. It was a pleasure to see. Have any of you noticed this? Do you think that long hair is coming back into "style"? | | | June 2nd, 2005, 11:17 AM | #2 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Oct 2004 Age: 23 Posts: 197 Type: 1c/2a/M/iii | Well, I know a lot of people my age have relatively long hair, around BSL. But lots of times it's dyed, straightened, or thin. Only a few of my friends have long, natural hair (around waist length). __________________ You touch my hand These colors come alive In your heart and in your mind I cross the borders of time Leaving today behind to be with you again - "Say My Name" Within Temptation | | | June 2nd, 2005, 11:28 AM | #3 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2005 Age: 50 Posts: 1,947 Length: pixie/34.5"/48" Type: 2a/F/i/ii | I notice more long hair when I make the effort to look, that's for sure. I don't think I paid any attention at all until I started posting here, and now I see us everywhere! I think my eye knows what to look for now, when I see someone with their hair in a bun, or even hairsticks. In the past, I wouldn't have wondered how long their hair must be. Around here, though, a lot of women who let their hair grow long seem to be Pentecostal, making grooming choices that reflect their beliefs in some way, but it doesn't seem to me that this board is in any way dominated by any one particular faith, which is nice. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 11:35 AM | #4 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2005 Location: Land of the Massholes Age: 39 Posts: 379 Length: 2 in/26.5/33ish Type: 1c/2a/F/M/iii | The people I see with long hair around here (Boston area) are few and far between. Maybe just because it's an urban area. Those that do have long-ish hair tend to be generally kind of scraggley-looking. EVERYBODY highlights and colors their hair out here (95% or more anyway) Dyeing and highlighting hair is now what perms were in the 80's, everybody does it and you're the weird one if you don't. I intend to grow my hair long and pretty to show these urbanites how normal people keep their real hair. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 11:47 AM | #5 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Colorado Age: 36 Posts: 2,442 Length: ??/34/36 Type: 1c/F/ii | Here in Western Colorado, anything goes, and I think there are more people with shoulder lengh or longer than short hair. Except for little old ladies. It's nice to see how other people have their hair, and the various states of health it's in. My class reunion is tomorrow, and one of our classmates is a guy with waist-length hair. It was short in high school, but I guess it has been ten years. I'm so jealous! __________________ Legally Blonde, my journal Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost | | | June 2nd, 2005, 12:26 PM | #6 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: USA Age: 24 Posts: 114 Length: 27/281/2/40 Type: 1b/M/ii | I think so! Since joining here I've been really paying attention the hair lengths of other people ( ), & lately I've noticed quite a few longhairs. Infact, when I was at the grocery store yesterday with my mom checking lotto tickets a woman behind the counter had gorgeous waist length hair. Then I glanced around and so did the woman behind me! And these women looked to be in their late 30s-early 40s. Very cool! __________________ ♥ Blessed is the person who can laugh at himself - he'll never cease to be amused. ♥ | | | June 2nd, 2005, 12:33 PM | #7 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2005 Location: Pacific south west Age: 54 Posts: 290 Length: 21"/21"/bsl + Type: 1c/F/M/i | Quote: | Originally Posted by Danibobanny EVERYBODY highlights and colors their hair out here (95% or more anyway) Dyeing and highlighting hair is now what perms were in the 80's, everybody does it and you're the weird one if you don't. It's like an unwritten law that a person should dye or highlight their hair. I've decided to go against the grain, and let my dye job grow out. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 01:08 PM | #8 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Midwest USA Posts: 797 Length: Chin/BSL/Waist Type: 2a/2b/F/i | There may be a trend towards longer hair. There was an article over at Longhairlovers.com that a major salon chain was complaining that now that women are growing their hair longer, they are losing business. (I think this may have been discussed on the boards here before.) | | | June 2nd, 2005, 01:12 PM | #9 | | Long Hair Guru Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: LA Posts: 4,712 Length: 30/32/39 Type: 3a/3b/F/iii | Quote: | Originally Posted by Sharon It's about the same where I'm at in Santa Monica, not frar from Hollywood. Since I am 30 and I have long hair as well as virgin hair, I'm pretty much a total freak. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 03:23 PM | #10 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Age: 39 Posts: 89 Length: 1/28/35 Type: 2b/2c/F/M/ii | Quote: | Originally Posted by harpgal Yesterday, it was raining and I went to the mall to walk laps. | I don't think this exercise routine has caught on down here yet. I remember when I was in the US last and visiting a big mall in Spokane, WA ( or was it Homestead, FL) and I saw this group of people all in exercise clothes striding around the mall. It was the most unusualist thing I had seen! But back to topic. LOL! | The one thing I've observed when I start walking around looking at people, is that they all seem to have a sixth sense that they are being looked at. It's very embarrasing noticing someones longhair and then they reflexively look straight at you. As I keep walking along I endless say in my head 'Doh! <ten more metres> Doh!' <rinse and repeat> as I get caught out. Quote: Have any of you noticed this? Do you think that long hair is coming back into "style"? | Maybe because I'm more attuned to longhair that I notice it more. I remember reading about a year or so ago that longhair was getting more fashionable for men again, but a year on and it's died off again I think. Actually I had one good sighting yesterday of a girl with longhair. She had nearly waste length hair, but what really set it off was that she was wearing a real long dress. It looked like something from the late 1800's/early 1900's but with a hippy twist to it but it made her look very feminine. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 03:30 PM | #11 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Bay Area, California Age: 52 Posts: 59 Length: 15/18.5/21 Type: 1b/F/ii | Weighing in here from San Francisco. The only people with long hair here are either students, or hippies in the Haight! I think SF women are allergic to long hair. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 03:43 PM | #12 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: Mar 2005 Age: 58 Posts: 25 Length: 12"/12"/36" Type: 2c// | Long hair is in over here in Albuquerque, I've noticed the same thing a lot of long hairs even older women and men. Yea! I've noticed the same thing on TV too, I got a magazine from my church and the front cover had a girl with very long hair on the front cover. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 04:06 PM | #13 | | Moderator Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Almost Heaven, West Virginia Age: 40 Posts: 6,781 Length: 30/37.5/??? Type: 3a/3b/F/M/iii | Long hair has always been a fairly accepted thing in West Virginia, both on men and women (although on men it's usually a mullet rather than all over). If you are in downtown Charleston it's not unusual to see women in their 30s and up with long hair back in barrettes or in ponytails. One thing that I have noticed is that the younger people, who tend to be the haircutters around here, have been growing long. I see all sorts of little teenagers (and when I say little I mean skinny as rails) with long straight hair. For sure a lot of them straighten their hair, but it usually looks to be in pretty good shape. BSL is the average, but sometimes I'll see a waistlength or tailbone head of hair. Classic (or longer) is very unusual here, or at least these folks don't wear it down. Waist-length is definitely the most popular "really long" hair length, and BSL is the most popular "long but still trendy" length. I guess I'm not sure I understand this look. | | | June 2nd, 2005, 04:31 PM | #15 | | Long Hair Devotee Join Date: May 2005 Age: 28 Posts: 90 | Yea i have alot!! even the guys are growing out as well! its kinda like the 70's and 80's combined with today lol! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Hybrid Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
