View Full Version : A definate henna line

This morning was the first morning I washed my hair after I had put henna on my roots. After my shower I ran off to work with wet hair. I was so busy today that when it dried I just whipped it up into a pony tail and I don't think I even looked in the mirror until after I got home.
To my surprise I can see a definate line where I stopped the henna.
Not in color but in shine. I can't believe that it was so noticeable.
Last time I used henna I had started with a whole head application and then just did root once and a while between whole head treatments.
So, I never realized the difference, but this time I wanted to use a brown on my roots to even it all up before I applyed a burgandy to it all so I did it backwards.
I am shocked but really pleased with it.
I am sitting here with the burgandy strand test on now and if all is well I am going to try and put it on Sunday.

Wow Nitsa, thanks for sharing that.
I was thinking about trying a root only touch up some time, but your message made me reconsider.
It's probably more messy than a full head application anyway (at least for me cause my technique has been refined over so many years).

And yes, please let us know your results with the burgundy!

You could always do the roots, then after an hour or two, apply the henna on the more colored ends. Might be a good compromise.

Fox, I had a question for you but I was not sure if you were around right now.
How long do you leave your henna in for.
When I used Lush the directions said 4 1/2 or more hours.
I usually went 4-6. I ordered the burgandy henna from Mountain Rose Herbs. When it came it also came with directions from Rainbow henna.
I am guessing that is what they are selling you.
Rainbow says to leave it on for 45 min. That just doesn't seem long enough to me. I know you have used that brand in the past, so I was wondering how long you left if on for.

That's true - but the main reason I wanted to try doing the roots only is the mechanical stress I put on the length while applying henna.
I do the roots first anyway, but it's hard not to get any henna in the length already. Then, when I do the length, I have to seperate into several sections in order to fully saturate the length. I find that this sectioning of hair that's already slightly baked together by a little henna involves a lot of pulling, even if I'm trying to be as gentle as possible.

Waiting a while between roots and length would probably make it even worse.

Other than that I'm happy with the result of the full head applications I'm doing. :)
