View Full Version : I'm hoping now that spring is nearing
LongRed March 14th, 2003, 02:52 PM I'm hoping now that spring is on
it's way that my hair will take on a
growth spurt and grow, grow, grow...
I remember thinking that at the onset
of winter....but none-the-such!
Does hair ever STOP growing all
together?
:(
Carolyn March 14th, 2003, 02:57 PM Let's hope spring brings us all a nice growth spurt. I had a couple of 1/4" months. Bummer! :( I am so ready for spring. It's supposed to be in the high 60s here tomorrow and the crop pants are coming out. Do the rest of you MPW's still call them pedal pushers? :D
GoldLady March 14th, 2003, 03:41 PM I couldn't agree with you more, LR!! DANG, we need some serious growth spurtage here.
It was a gorgeous day here today! Sunny and warm; hub and I got sunburns! It's supposed to be 80 here tomorrow. Talk about going from no activity to 90 in one day.... hehehe!
JennaPea March 14th, 2003, 06:04 PM Do the rest of you MPW's still call them pedal pushers? :D
Yup!! I haven't heard anybody else call them that in a looonngg time! :D :D
Grenwich March 15th, 2003, 02:04 AM I could do with a growth spurt too - to make up for some of the trimming I've done during the dark winter months. It's supposed to be 60 here today as well -
Crop pants - pedal pushers, capris, whatever you call them ......<shudders> sorry :(
no can do - I'd like the rest of the leg of my pants please!
:P

Me too Gren! I'm such a gangly person as it is, there is no way I'd like to acentuate that fact! It's like wearing 3/4 sleeves- I shudder thinking about it! I was a bell bottom gal tyvm.
As for the weather, well..... it is a beautiful day! 70° at noon and suposed to be in the 80s later in the day. My neighbors are grilling, I think I'll mosey on over and drink a beer with them. Oh wait, I'm supposed to be cleaning the garage. :(
Last weekend I mixed up some soil for my bonsai, swept the live oak leaves off the deck and planted some lavender impatiens in a window box. I also bought some ginger that I'll plant in the front yard. Oh, and I forgot the daylilies I bought too! I've got to plant them too.
I love this time of year!
Arcticpixie March 15th, 2003, 09:55 AM Oh you guys are making me jealous!!! Not that I would move for the world.
It was -30 yesterday morning. The wind was blowing the last few days making the wind chill -60+. When I let the dogs out this morning it was only -5 though :D
When spring does show up around here you know it. We call it break up. All of the sudden it gets warm, all the trees give birth to baby leaves and the ice pack literally breaks up into mini-icefloes. The snow starts evaporating and you can sometimes see baby grass growing up through the snow. In 2 weeks you can go from solid white to bright green everywhere :D.
I am already getting my springtime growth though :D All the extra sunlight tricks my brain into thinking it's spring even though my thermometer tells me otherwise!
gabiwags March 15th, 2003, 11:22 AM ArcticPx - Love Love Love that picture
Yes, I think it's the light - now if "BobHH" and I just weren't so darned nocturnal  ...g
Grenwich March 15th, 2003, 01:59 PM ArticPixie - we're having "breakup" right now - Rochester's been under ice and snow since November - and it was a pleasure today to see mud!
Yeah, I know that's strange, but after 4 months of white, white, dirty white everywhere - mud's fun stuff - especially on Jacks big paws!
No baby leaves yet, but the birds have returned - there were mallard drakes and hens chasing each other all over the place, and ya know what that means!
Running water on ice, 4 and 5 inches deep and the snow has gone all granular - it's better than walking on refreeze - you might was well put on skates!
Spring! YIPPEE!

Anne March 15th, 2003, 02:58 PM Meeee toooo Longred! meeee tooo!
Sarah March 15th, 2003, 04:04 PM Today was beautiful! It was 75 degrees, and partly cloudy with a gentle breeze. This is so wonderful, after what was probably the coldest winter I remember. The trees are still dead looking, but at least there is a little bit of green grass showing through. I can't wait till the trees get their leaves. And spring starts later up here than what I'm used to.
I didn't get to take advantage of the weather today as much as I'd liked, since I'm stuck here on campus, and my car isn't working. I really want to get out of town, and walk through the woods or something. I'm just not a city person. But my campus is on top of a big hill, and at around sunset I sat on bench overlooking the city, reading a book, with the breeze blowing lightly through my hair. I'm really looking forward to more weather like this. The next couple days are supposed to be nice, too, though not quite as warm as today. There's a chance for thunderstorms, and I hope we get one. I really love spring and summer thunderstorms. I love hearing the thunder, watching the lightning, and the smell of the rain. It's even better when there's really unusual weather, with rain and sun at the same time, and sometimes rainbows. I also like watching the clouds as they change shape and move through the sky, and when the sky is colored differently from usual. It would be really cool if we got a rainbow on St. Patrick's Day.
smythe_michael March 15th, 2003, 07:25 PM Spring is definitely near my Northern friends.
been in the high 80's all week in south florida....even 93 weds.
ugh...now it will be Africa hot until November!! (each year i live in florida, i really grow to love winter....wish I could be one of the snowbirds!)
but as a former northerner, i remember how anxious we were for spring to finally come.
enjoy it

Ugh. We just got dumped on down here in the SE. Three feet in one night is kind of a shock to the system when you really haven't gotten much all season. LOL

!!! Send me your snow!!! I am so sick of not having snow. We have maybe 2 feet on the ground. At least it didn't get uber cold! No snow+uber cold=backed up septic system. Yuck. The wind finally quit this weekend too.
I've been to SE once. I spent 4 days in Juneau enjoying liquid sunshine :D. I loved it!
You know what a dry winter means don't you?? A sucky summer. Bleach. Oh well. Maybe next year will be normal LOL.
euphrasyne March 17th, 2003, 08:57 AM Ya'll are really making me jealous; I've never even seen real snow. We got 2 inches, which did not stick, about 3 years ago. I scraped enough powder off of the house and both cars to make a 9 inch snow man --does that even count as snow?

Thank you, Betty... *big hug* I need some of those right now. I haven't had any growth at all for a month and a half, and I'm bumming... :(

Freakin' A!!! TAKE IT!!! When I said we got "dumped on," I meant 3 feet in one night. Three feet of med/heavy snow - not any of that light, fluffy powder stuff. Now, it's just too cold to snow anymore.
As for the infamous "liquid Juneau sunshine," HA! You got LUCKY! You managed to come here during the two week total sun we ever get! LOL!!! I say it again, you were lucky. Mother Nature is FOOLING you. LOLOLOL!
FYI for AK "outsiders," I live in the Tongass National Rainforest. Anything wet, and we've got it. Sun and warmth is rare.
