Woo... I'm floating on air right now!

I just got home from the oral defense of my Master's degree thesis. I passed!!!!

I was so nervous, but all went well. Two of the professors even said it's the best Master's thesis they've ever seen. Yeah!!!

I'm so thrilled! (And relieved -- no more thesis work!)

Just wanted to share with all of my friends here. :)

Hey now, you're not ignorant! :) I just didn't mention my thesis too much 'cause I didn't want to jinx it. (How educated is that? Ha ha ha!) My thesis is about the perception of Japanese accent by native speakers of various languages. Got some quite interesting results.

But now I'm done..... hurrah!!

Thanks everyone!

That sounds really interesting. I had a year of Japanese, and the accent is HARD! (especially when you normally have a southern drawl lol)

Congratulations!
That's fabulous :D

Now relax, enjoy some free time and do something especially nice for yourself that you haven't had the time to do before (shopping? spa? movies? a great novel? ...)

I always loved pampering myself after finally finishing some academic work.

Thanks everyone! :)

Already I'm doing a bunch of stuff that I didn't have time to do while working on the thesis:

1) Get 8 hours of sleep!
2) Read a book -- two, in fact! I devoured Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan last night and this morning, and now I'm reading another! It's nice to read for fun again!!!
3) Shopping -- I went and got a Denman brush today (20% coupon! I thought it was only 15% off, but was pleasantly surprised at the store. :) )

And so on! ;)

Wow! I did't have to defend mine...that just've been nerve racking! That sounds more like a PHD than a Masters. I just did a project, that included a loooong research paper. I know how much work it is doing the research.

Can I ask what your thesis is? I'll tell you the topic of mine if you tell me yours :)

Again, WAY TO GO!

Thanks! At my school, you have to defend EVERYTHING, even the thesis proposal before you can start reseaching! A little overkill, anyone?

The only real difference between an M.A. defense and a Ph.D. defense (well, besides that a dissertation is usually a lot longer than a thesis....) is that Ph.D. defenses are open to the public and M.A. defenses are not. So for M.A. defenses, only your professors can throw questions at you, while anyone who wants to can attend a dissertation defense and ask you torturous questions. :)

Topic, topic... well I posted it already since it was asked... but it was perception of (Japanese) pitch-accent by native speakers of various other languages. Interestingly enough, I found that regardless of the person's native language, they had the same difficulties with Japanese accent. Anyway... don't want to bore you nice people! :)

So what was your topic, Sun?
