View Full Version : Conditioner above ears? also , s lauryl s..
AngelicBrunette March 18th, 2004, 03:31 PM what do yas think of using conditioner above the ears? for awhile now thats what i've been doing.. but a bit of that portion (back of my head , at the top few inches) is my most damaged part of all my hair. Tonight i used my new L'oreal kids conditioner for the first time (well , first for a few years :-p) [after wanting it for awhile (remembering the great scent) but then finding out it was no longer available in canada ,and then my asked my dad to pick it up for me when he was in the states , and he did]
ANYWAYS , lol , i decided to use a bit on that portion of my hair , and all around up there too , and now that its practically dry it feels great, Do most of you use conditioner there always or .. not? lol
Also .. I got dad to get me Brilliant Brunette Shine Release Shampoo.Someone on LHL told me about it , recomended it (kinda) I couldn't find a list of the ingredients online , and they don't have it here yet (obviously , or i would've just got it here :p) and since the person was saying its natural and has cocoa and .. etc , then i didn't really think twice about there being Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it. I've been not using things with that for awhile now and i'd like your opinions on it .. If i continue to condition up there , and maybe use some jojoba , would that make up for it? I don't want to just not use it after i got him to get it for me .. its the 2nd gentlest out of the 4 isn't it?

I do that all the time. Either I C/O wash anyway or if I shampoo, which is rarely, I'll most likely use a lighter conditioner all over my head and a heavier one from the ears down. My scalp needs moisture, too!
I'd say if hair/scalp needs it and it doesn't make your hair limp, go for it!

okay , thanks :D I just wish i knew a way to fix the stupid back of the head thing :dizzy: I think i'm gonna ask my hairdresser to do a bit of dusting there next time i go , cuz its hard for me to reach and i'm thinking theres a lot up closer to my scalp that i can't see  But from now on i'm gonna use the conditioner there, maybe that can help a bit
BigChiefHoho March 18th, 2004, 06:14 PM I always use it above my ears, just a lot more lightly than I do for the length.
Teacherbear March 18th, 2004, 07:09 PM I mostly condition from the ears down, but I DO put some on the canopy of my hair (I don't run it through my hair to my scalp). I do this with my conditioner that I rinse out and with my leave in.
HTH
magpiedee March 19th, 2004, 03:14 AM I'm with Tbear-- the neck down gets a heavy slathering, while the neck up gets a little smoothing on the outside of the hair, no rubbing into the scalp. This process keeps the hair shiny and supple without adding the greasies, plus it helps keep my sproinglies and clown hairs down.
As for S. Lauryl S., it is my sworn enemy. Turns my hair to unmanageable, tangly, velcro straw. And my hair is generally very genial! I had to give up Lush shampoos for this very reason. I understand it works for some people, but I am definitely *not* one of 'em.
:wethree: The shampoo girls and I hope that helps! :wethree:
Axium March 19th, 2004, 03:48 AM Above the neck is my philosophy! Can't get enough conditioner! My hair needs it everywhere!
rainee March 19th, 2004, 05:51 AM yes. I do.
I usually pour some conditioner in a cup, add water, shake, and pour over my head, then work the conditioner through my hair, and add a bit more to the ends.
AngelicBrunette March 19th, 2004, 06:31 AM thanks everyone! and thats what i did too , did a whoooole bunch on about ears and down , and then what was left over on my hands (not much) just smoothed over the top :)
and my hair feels perfect right now (not tangly or anything) so S lauryl S may work for me *shrug* i'll just have to wait and see , i just hope it doesn't dry it out more than my other shampoo or anything :dizzy:
RedButterfly March 19th, 2004, 10:56 AM I apply conditioner both above ears and below ears. I just use more conditioner on the length. I feel that my hair benefits from this.
Igor March 19th, 2004, 11:01 AM I bend over and hang my hair down and condition all the way up to the scalp, so I guess the answer would be “I do that and I think it’s a good idea”
LiLi March 19th, 2004, 03:11 PM I recently discovered CWCC which works really well for me -- I CWC as usual with both the C's from the ears down only, but I finish up with a CO conditioner (Suave at the moment) just on the scalp. Since CO conditioners are light and almost like a shampoo (at least in LHC land), I feel like this is the best way to control some of my wispies while still getting moisture to the scalp and canopy. HTH!

Magpiedee, What shampoos are you currently using that are working for you routine?
Thanks.
Stephanie May 24th, 2004, 08:01 PM Re: Conditioning... I do every time. Even when I deep condition. Makes it virtually impossible for me to detangle if I don't.
Ali May 24th, 2004, 09:55 PM I used to condition all the way up to the scalp, but since discovering co, I find that if I put my conditioner all the way up I get greasy hair really quick. But if I don't put anything on it (i.e. just wash with my "washing" conditioner) then the top of my head looks awful compared to the lengths.
Lately I've been applying my conditioner to length and ends, leaving for a few minutes, and then just before washing out I move a bit onto my roots, combing it through, then immediately rinsing out. I'm finding this seems to be a good combination for my fine hair.

Vampberry May 24th, 2004, 09:57 PM I just dilute some conditioner with water in a cup and pour it all over my head. Then I let it sit for a while and rinse it off. Works for me :)

me too hair needs it every where
Rain May 25th, 2004, 10:06 AM Being a curly, my hair tends to dry out quickly. I can't even think about not conditioning above the ears or I'd get horns at my temples. I usually use a lighter conditioner on top than on the rest but I'll use a heavy one if I have to. I sometimes rub it into my scalp on purpose to assist with exfoliating, then I rinse it out very well.
bellawave May 25th, 2004, 12:46 PM Since my hair is damaged (color) I have to condition all of it, or it gets tangled all the way to the roots. Before I colored it, I only needed to condition the ends.
